Good morning from Tennessee! Last night Hershey's PM read was 162. I did not retest because I had fed him already. So I skipped his insulin. This morning (8/21) after our usual struggle, his AM reading came out at 228. I am not sure what to do? Are there any early birds up? I leave for work at 6:00 a.m. and he get his shot right before. His dose for the last week has been 1.0 x 2 (see spread sheet). I will be doing his nadir this weekend. Advice appreciated! Yesterday he dropped 100 points from AM test to PM test, worried about this happening again. Possibly go .25 units this AM?

I'd go either .5 or .25...whatever you feel comfortable with. That preshot last night wasn't too low, but since it was too low to shoot you want to reduce. Without some nadirs to know how low he is going, it's tough to make a call (and trust me, I know how hard it is when you work and can't get them!).

Are you able to leave food out? If you can leave out some food, that can help Hershey if he feels he is going too low. Lots of cats will grab some food to eat and bring themselves up.

Thanks Rachel, my mom lives with us and she is home all day. She usually feeds him his ff (wet food) around 11 and then again around 3. I leave a little bowl of dry evo out as well. I'm leaning toward .5 but I'm just not sure.....what is the Normal range for a non-diabetic cat?

I think . 5 would be fine. That's half a normal dose for him and he was so close to 200 yesterday...you did 1 unit on a 237 preshot on 8/20 and it wasn't a bad AMPS...and 237 is basically the same as 228 (they're so close, we can count them as the same). Normal is under 120 at preshot level and most of the day spent in the double digits I believe...

If your mom will be home and feeding him occasionally, he should be fine. She can keep an eye on him and make sure he doesn't seem to be acting odd...I don't REALLY think he would go too low on .5, but with someone home to keep an eye on things, it will just make you feel better. :)

Thanks Rachel I will go with .50 have a great day! Hopefully his PM test will go better and it will be an awesome read!
