I fed Neko about half her food at preshot, and split the rest into smaller meals in the first part of the cycle (before nadir). After nadir, carbs can slow down the insulin action, which is already slowing down on it's own, potentially slowing duration. Neko also got a low/no carb snack at +9, because historically before FD, that's when she got a meal. Neko wasn't about giving up meals! And it broke the long period of time without food. Later, when I switched to Levemir, the +9 was around nadir so a good time to feed.
I also switched Neko to raw food, which seemed to be more "filling" for her. It was less volume for the same amount of calories, but seemed to satisfy her better.
The other thing I did was put the post preshot meals into her autofeeder. She soon learned that more food came from it instead of me. So she watched her friend Otto(feeder) instead of bugging me for food. You don't need to adjust testing around when you feed after preshot.
