Alex has certainly come a long way and other than looking a little thinner than he was before going DKA, nobody would ever guess that he has diabetes. I know many of my friends and family thought the diagnosis was a death-sentence. And if it weren't for this board, maybe it would have been. So, I want to say thank you so much to all of you for you advice, support, and willingness to just "be there".

Take a look at Alex's SS and tell me what you think about the 1.0 dose vs. 1.1. Not much difference in insulin, I agree, but 1.0 doesn't seem quite enough while 1.1 "almost" got us into some trouble. I certainly don't want Alex to go hypo, but it seems that 1.1 might be better. Let me know your thoughts.

I am not sure the dose is what is controlling your readings. On 8/18 on 1.1U you hit greens--but, on 8/19 on 1.1U you had a higher cycle with no greens. Then on 8/21 you shot 1.1U and hit greens, followed by 1 U and a higher cycle with no greens.

My first reaction is the higher cycles are a result of the lower greens on the cycles prior. It is not unusual in a cat like Alex, that has not seen green in a long time until presently, to have higher cycles after hitting those lower numbers. The numbers on 1.1U on the 19th do no look any better than they do today on 1U. So, I am thinking it is not the dose that is making the differnce, but instead the higher cycles are the body fighting the insulin after hitting the lower numbers on the previous cycles.

That is just my thoughts--

I think Kim is right here. I'd stick with the 1.1u for a while and see if he will even out on his own. Another option, since someone is there to test so much, is to go TID to try to lessen the big number swings. What do you think?

I'll stick with 1.1. TID is not an option for us. We're at home today because we took a couple of days of vacation.

I've had the same problem before & actually last night I shot .1 less because of a low PS then she shot back up to 324. IDK if something else is going on this time though...or could it be rebound since she hasn't seen green in awhile? That's why I hate this dance....there are always multiple answers for a problem & no way to tell what's the right one!

Hey Ginny, I was talking about sweetie pie Alex over on occhi's thread! She's worried he won't let her test. You might want to go give her some pointers. I can't imagine Alex being difficult...look at that sweet face. cat_pet_icon
