I think the same thing could be going on this morning. Yesterday, was a "heck" of a ride for Alex and you really don't know how low he went. I think his body is fighting the insulin.
Hey, go read my post form a few nights ago....it ends with pm question....read the copied and pasted information about rebound. It discusses the liver dumping sugar and hormones to fight off a hypo situation. The hormones released can make the cat temporarily insulin resistant.
I am sure it can be debated if that is what is going on ....and I am not interested in a debate...but, it could be what you are seeing.
Interesting consideration and reading at the least!
I went and copied it for you........
Oddly, too much insulin may result in increase of blood glucose (BG). This "Somogyi effect" is often noted by pet owners who monitor their pets' blood glucose at home.
The reason: anytime the glucose level drops too far or too fast, the animal's organism may defensively dump glucose (converted from glycogen in the liver), as well as hormone epinephrine and cortisol, into the bloodstream (If these are insufficient, hypoglycemia ensues!) The glycogen raises the blood glucose, the other two may make the pet insulin-resistant for a time. This phenomenon was first documented by a Dr. Michael Somogyi. [33]
