I was so afraid that Alex would come home and be so mad at us that he wouldn't allow us to poke and shoot, but he was very good about it this morning. His sister, Audrey, on the other hand has been quietly hissing and growling at her brother. I guess he doesn't smell the same after 3 days at the ER.

Anyway, today is my mom's 84th b'day and I want to go visit my parents. It's about a 4 hour drive. DH is home from his business trip, and this morning, tells me he thinks I should go and I could really use the break. He knows the routine, just have to add the ketone test, but he won't be posting. Wanted you to know that my silence doesn't indicate a problem.

I ended up shooting 1.5 this morning on a 320 AMPS--really couldn't do the full 2.0 that the internist recommended. This is the old insulin that I've had since April and it has a July expiration date on it. I definitely expect the new vial on order to come soon and to be more potent.
 
Enjoy your much needed break Ginny. The DH can always post here if he needs an answer to something ;)

My Mom is 82 and I lost my Dad about 3 years ago at just about 87. Every minute is precious so I totally understand you wanting to go be with your folks.

I second everything Donna said so well. Go enjoy your break! Your mom will love seeing you and Alex is in good hands. Audrey's reaction isn't unusual, by the way. I've had the same thing happen on occasion after my cats were hospitalized. It won't last long. She's just reacting to the different scent. Have a safe trip!
 
Oh yes! that ER smell .... it will go away but it is so funny to watch! they want to come home so much and then when they do, all the other cats hiss at them .....

Happy Birthday to your Mom! And just like everyone else we have experienced the same thing with the "vet" smell! I'm glad Alex is not so mad at you, he's probably just glad to be home! I'm sure you're gone by now...but have a good safe trip!

I'm leaving around noon today, so I thought I'd check in before I go. I only got one mid-cycle reading yesterday, but it actually looked like a real curve--higher numbers than we want, but a curve. We'll hold with the 1.5 units through the weekend and then see. He seems to be eating pretty well and seems happy. He's doing a lot of grooming--I guess trying to get those foreign smells off so Audrey will stop the growling and hissing.
