OK I'm ready to do something. This is getting too high for my tastes.

Vet just called because I called him this morning about my thinking Sammy wasn't pooping. Sammy has none of the symptoms he reeled off: vomiting, straining and lack of appetite. His belly isn't distended or hard either. He suggested letting him lick a dab of Vaseline twice a day. He wants to see him stat if I don't think he's gone b/c it could impact his diabetes. I gave him a 25-word description of yesterday and now he knows about you guys.("Who's we?", says he.) I said I would love to introduce him. I told him you were thinking 1.5 twice a day. He wonders if Sammy might be a candidate for once a day and thinks we should try a 2U dose. When he said that he knew that Sammy was 324 at +29 at 1:41pm, which he rightly thought was high but I explained that we needed to establish a workable schedule and that's when he came up with his person-pleasing once-a-day solution. Re: yesterday. He wanted to know how low Sammy got and what we did to forestall him going through the floor. Odd, he never asked what I gave him.

I'm not sure I'm doing this right. The link would be viewtopic.php?f=9&t=12380.

For future reference: One condo, per cat, per day. Lantus Land is really big and if everyone opened a new condo it would get completely out of hand. You can choose which condo you want to leave open for today. Whichever one you chose, change the subject line and refer people to that condo.

As far as once a day dosing, I would think we should see if BID (twice a day) works first. Only a very few cats can handle SID dosing. The vast majority of cats' metabolism requires BID Lantus. (It's an SID insulin in humans but a cat's "engine" runs a lot faster.)

Once a day dosing doesnt work with lantus--It is a 12/12 insulin, so I wouldnt consider it-Speak to libby & Lucy or D & noisy, Sienne & Gabby,
Just to verify this as, no one here does that kind of dosing & I have never seen it work...The gentle curve that lantus provides couldnt be, with TID dosing! Vet wrong again!!--At least about lantus!
Were you on that dosing on any other insulin?? Do you know any other member who is succeeding with that tid dosing??
I cant remember even one, even when I was on health forum...
