? Affordable Lantus

Crumb & Olive

Member Since 2024
Hello, I am not sure if this is where I should be posting this question or not so I apologize if I have the wrong forum. I am wondering if anyone knows of an affordable place to purchase Lantus in the U.S.. When Olive was first diagnosed, the vials I got from my vet were expensive but I was still able to afford them. However, since she has come out of remission, I am with a new vet and it costs $200 a pen...that I cannot afford. Especially if I am suppose to replace it every 28 days. Does anyone here have suggestions of somewhere else I can purchase it?

Also, I forgot to put her pen back in the fridge this morning. I was going to throw it out thinking it was now bad but a friend who is diabetic said that it is okay still. She said it's only bad if it goes back and forth between extreme temperatures and advised I just keep it out of the fridge now. Does anyone else store theirs outside of the fridge?

Thanks in advance!

Please see the below info for getting Lantus for $35. I got a box of pens for $35 at CVS several times. You may need to call different pharmacies to check on pricing. The prescription must be worded as you see below.
Lantus should be stored in the refrigerator and you can use it to the last drop. :)

Thank you Ivy for the information! I'm a little confused though, is it your vet that writes the prescription and I ask the to word it that way?

I see that Staci and Ivy posted this also
I paid $35 at CVS for Lantus solostar pens 5 pack. I was told the prescription needed to be worded exactly as in this attachment. And I took the coupon generated from the Sanofi website. They applied the coupon as I held my breath and it worked. I was told to say your cat is 18 years old if asked and have no date of birth on the prescription. I hope this helps.

The 28 days
it is designed for humans to last 28 days and be carried in a purse or pocket. We keep it in the refrigerator so it will last much longer. You should be able to use it to the last drop if you store it correctly.

Your pen should be OK if you put it back in the fridge. It's possible it might go bad sooner, but many people accidentally leave them out of the fridge for part of the day.

Yes that’s correct! Your vet must write the script for you. Take it to the pharmacy. If it doesn’t work out with them take back your script. Ask them not to write on the script until it’s filled in case you need to go elsewhere! :joyful:
