I am really p----d of with myself today,I was looking at Baileys ss yesterday thinking how his numbers has settled down over the past few days, and that we were having a nice run without those horrid pinks, then for the first time in over a year that Bailey has been on insulin, this morning I gave him a fur shot!!!! How long will it take for the shed to replace what was lost, and that we will be back to normal.just done his +6 and it was high 22nd Feb. AMPS. 16
+6. 14.7
Am so cross with myself.

Oh, please don't be cross with yourself. I'm guessing this happens to most of us at some time or other. It's certainly happened to me quite a few times, especially if I am tired or stressed....

I don't use the same insulin as you but I do use a long lasting insulin that works on 'overlap'. And in our case it can take one to two cycles to get things back on track.

What we don't know, of course, is how much insulin you actually gave Bailey, so it's hard to factor that into the equation.
With Bertie (on Hypurin Bovine PZI) I give the following shot early if I've given a fur shot, to try to even things out a bit. But I don't know if that works with Lantus.... (Sorry, I feel that my advice is possibly worse than useless! Duh! But I'm sure our US Lantus chums will be online in another hour or so. )

Thanks Elizabeth,
You reply is much appreciated,It would happen when his nadir numbers were lifting my spirits, and I was beginning to stress less.
Hope you and your are safe from the flooding in your area
Kind regards Diane

This happens to me at least once a week. I actually suspect that sometimes the insulin leaks back out (I'll suddenly smell it on him a half hour to an hour after giving a shot). Don't worry; fur shots have a tendency to clear out relatively quickly, usually within the next cycle or two.

Thankyou for your words of reassurance,I could actually see the beads of insulin on his fur,I am normally so meticulous with his routine,I just want to do whatever is in my power to help Bailey.have been beating myself up about it all day!
Well as they say, tomorrow is another day in the life of a diabetic cat and his bean!! Many thanks Diane x

I did that this morning.

Better too high for a day than too low for a moment.
