I'm afraid to up her dose. I seldom see much of a drop, and the blues come up every so often. I am going away for a week (gulp) beginning Monday, and the pet sitter can't test. So I'm afraid to up her dose while we are gone. What should I do? I will make an appointment with our vet when we return. I try to get more readings during the day but it is difficult to get home to test her. Discouraged once again. Her appetite is great, eating one can FF am and pm, and a half can at noon. Is the insulin even doing anything?

Hi Joan,
Yes, the insulin is doing something - it's holding her bgs in check at least. Without it she'd be up in red numbers. Occasionally it drops her to a lower preshot too.

I would agree that it looks like she could use a higher dose. But I also think that you would be best off waiting until after your trip before adjusting anything.

Hi Joan. Nice to see you. Hope you are getting away to someplace nice. Agree that you can be more agressive with dosing when you return.

Under the heading 'Be prepared':

If the sitter would do it, you might provide urine ketone test strips for monitoring, and authorization for the person to take the cat to the vet, if something goes 'bump'.

Also let your vet know, so that if something comes up, they'll know the person has authorization to get treatment.
