Hi,
Mookie and I are doing ok with his shots, home testing, and changes to his diet. We've been hanging out at the new "relaxed lantus" board where we've learned a lot about regulating his insulin.

We're here this evening to ask how his pancreatitis might be affecting his bg numbers. Is it likely that the red-zone spikes in his cycle are from pain and the stress that goes along with it? If so, could I use those numbers as indicators for administering oral bup?

All advice on managing his pancreatitis is welcome. Thank you from both of us!

Does he seem like he's in pain at those times? Is he lethargic or inappetant? Whenever Boo's glucose would skyrocket like that, it was also apparent by his behavior that he was having an issue with the pancreatitis. What is Mookie eating?

Great links -- thanks.

I'm not sure if he was in pain during those 'red' times. Usually I can tell he's uncomfortable because he assumes a hunching posture, doesn't ask for food, and can't seem to take his normal naps. I should try to take a bg reading the next time I notice his discomfort.

He's just shifted from kibble and canned to all canned, which has been a challenge for both of us because he prefers kibble. He likes a couple of the Fancy Feast Elegant Medleys, a couple of the Weruva canned chicken, and a couple of Wellness varieties. Finding lo-carb canned food he'll eat has been the first step; next I'll tackle how he responds to the carb:fat ratio.

What about fluids for the pancreatitis? They are necessary and help a great deal. If you wonder about another attack, you can give pepcid and if still bad, give some fluids. You can try a small bit of bupe and you will see a big change.
