Advice about flea treatment for my diabetic cat

Hi everyone,

I am a first time poster here. I have a 14 year old diabetic persian who is on twice daily injections of insulin. he has been living with diabetes for over a year now. When he was first diagnosed he had lost a lot of weight but he is now back to his original weight and is healthy and doing very well.

Unfortunately I have recently discovered that he has quite a lot of fleas so I now need to treat him as he has some scabs and is scratchin a lot. The last time I used flea treatment on him was around 4 years ago (pre-diabetes) and I used revolution with no adverse effects. I am just worried about using revolution on him now that he is diabetic. I wondered whether anyone else on here has used revolution on their own diabetic cat with no problems? My vet tells me that it is safe but I guess I am just looking for reassurance from others with diabetic cats as I am very scared of making my little man unwell :sad:

I've used both revolution and advantage on Bob with no adverse effects. You might also ask your vet about Capstar. It'll get rid of any live fleas on him in an hour or less.

Capstar will not, however, kill the eggs and larval fleas. It only kills the adult fleas that bite.

Is your cat indoor? I use a good old fashion flea comb and kill those disgusting blood sucker in alcohol.
Then apply flea relief with the flea comb. Helps the skin heal and stops the itching. It's also non-toxic

Yes, he is an indoor cat who gets supervised outings into the garden. I did buy flea comb and tried to get some out but there are just too many to contend with and they are diffcult suckers to get out of his fur :sad:

I think the only effective way of getting rid of them might be to use the topical flea treatment unfortunately.

I'd try the capstar pill I mentioned first. It will at least get rid of the adult fleas. You might be able to get rid of any eggs hiding in his fur with just a flea bath?
