I posted this in the Lantus forum, but it was suggested I also post in the Feline Health forum:

Today I was able to get a bead of blood from Lulu, yay! and she tested high at 17.4. Yesterday I tried and tried, but ended up with a very unhappy kitty -- growling and yowling to the point where I gave up in tears. (I have inadvertently gotten a blood from my own fingers several times) I know it'll take time to get proficient at this, and am really happy that this forum is here for pointers and encouragement. The vet recommended Lulu's a.m. dosage be increased to 2 units Lantus in the a.m. and remain at 1 unit in the p.m., so she got 2 units yesterday morning and this morning. I have also ordered a baby scale so that I can monitor her weight. I'm slowly moving her to a 100% canned diet. Thanks everyone.

P.S. I just test her +7, was 17.4, same as +4.

If she fights you poking her ears, try the paw pad. Just rub it a little before you poke and the blood comes easily, they don't have many nerve ending there so it's not so painful for them.

Hey Lori, Just keep trying - it will become second nature!!! You know how to get a hold of me if you need to - and the offer is still there!! Lulu will still love you after all the ear pokes and you learning how to become proficient at home testing. It is really important for you to do this (as you know). Just deep breathe and try to relax - Lulu will pick up on what you are feeling and if you get stressed so will she. You will become a pro at it in no time at all!

Thank you, Alix, it is coming along, not easy but getting there. Wish Lulu was as cooperative as Scamp!
Yes, I know where to find you, and appreciate your offer.
