Advantage, Frontline, Revolution: all about the same?

Joey's got fleas - he hasn't been outside since about April, but there they are. I manage to comb most out, but I'm sure there's a lurker. I had some Advantage, but it's prob. too old to be effective. Just wondering if I should switch to another brand?

I use Frontline Plus because it also kills Ticks. The Ticks are insane where I live this year so I'm super paranoid about them (I also check Bandit head to toe for ticks every time he goes outside, since they can still attach for up to 24hrs before the frontline gets them. He's an indoor cat so he only goes for walks with me or supervised in the back yard on his harness, but we live in a semi-wooded area with lots of deer). I don't believe there is an advantage formula for cats that kills ticks. I could be wrong, but I do think the Revolution does also kill ticks, but it's pricier than the Frontline Plus, which has always worked well for me.

I know Frontline Plus has no expiration date, but I'm not sure about the other two? I've used the Frontline several years after purchase and it still worked fine.

Fleas and ticks can get inside your house on your shoes and clothes, and it only takes a few fleas to start an infestation. After fighting summer flea infestations with my cats two years in a row (one of whom had a flea allergy), I finally just started giving them both Frontline Plus every month from May-October every year. Haven't had a flea problem since.
 
Frontline isn't working on the fleas here this year so I changed to Advantage II for most cats and droolers alth' Snowshoe still gets Revolution. Snow has asthma and other lung issues, the Revolution doesn't cause a problem with those. Surprisingly, we don't have an issue with ticks where our animals are altho' the woods nearby are full. We do keep our yard sprayed for them.

The difference between them mainly is Revolution kills adult fleas and prevents flea eggs from hatching, prevents heartworm disease, treats and controls ear mites, treats and controls roundworms and hookworms. Plus you can only by it from a vet and its a little more expensive but I think worth it for all the over stuff besides the flea control.

Just checked out the Revolution site...so apparently here's the difference:

Advantage II: Kills fleas and flea eggs.

Frontline Topspot: Kills fleas and ticks, but not eggs.

Frontline Plus: Kills fleas and flea eggs, and ticks.

Revolution: Kills fleas and flea eggs, heartworm, ear mites, hookworms and roundworms. Does not kill ticks for cats.

Depending on where you can find it online, they all are roughly around the same price. Advantage and Topspot run a bit cheaper than the Frontline Plus, and the Frontline Plus is a bit cheaper than the Revolution. But not enough to make a huge difference.

Choose the one that best meets your needs; Since Bandit is an indoor cat, we worry about fleas and ticks the most, and aren't concerned much with the other parasites. An outdoor cat should definitely have the Revolution, in my opinion. I would definitely not get the topspot because if you're already infested you need something that kills the flea eggs. The topspot should only be used as a preventive measure.
 
Check with your vet and see if they have any promos going with one of the companies. Right now my vet has Frontline/Buy 3, One Free and Advantage II/Buy 4, Two Free. They often get samples too - I buy LOTS of flea meds as we treat animals of about half the neighborhood that won't treat them themselves. I always ask if they have any samples to save a bit...

Thanks to all of you. I got Frontline II - 90 dollars for 8 applications. Gee, it's like a Catch -22 - you hope he lives long enough to not waste them, but you hope he is flea free asap. I can always donate em, I am sure.
 
I've heard of people buying pet flea and tick meds from 4 Corners Pharmacy for way less than what you would pay at the vet's office or online pet store: http://www.4cnrs-pet-care.com/ The company is not in the US (some little island off the coast of Australia) but they do ship worldwide.
