Hello all,
We are transitioning Pele to 100% Esscence Air & Gamefowl from Hills KD.
Pele's kidney numbers are on the high end of normal. The low (no?) protien high carb Hills quite possibly caused Peles diabetes in the first place. We learned that with his kidney levels protien was good for him in the right measures and he si responding well. We are geting his blood tested on Fri and I will update his spreadsheet once we get the results.
After slowly transitioning Pele now he is getting 3oz of Essence and .5 oz of Hills.
His Lantus injections went from 11 units down to 5.5 units and we have avoided Hypoglycemia by being deliberate and vigilant.
This morning his BG was low end normal but he only ate about half his breakfast. I use an Alpha Trak 3 meter for a number of reasons. 3 hours later it was fairly low. I gave him some high carb food and tested him every few hours and his BG came up to where it should be.
Here is my question: Does anyone lower the Lantus if their cat has a light breakfast? That would seem to make sense. My vet says no but I'm seeking other viewpoints.
Thanks everyone,
Bobby, Christina and Pele (the cat!)
