I may or may not have a new kitty in the house... and by "may or may not" I mean I definitely have a new kitty :p

But I need some food advice. This guy is in remission and he's been getting a mix of Purina Beyond (dry, free-fed) and Fancy Feast Fish and Shrimp (canned, 1/2 can in am and pm). I had planned to transition him over to all wet food, but the foster didn't have much food left. I was given two cans of FF and about a cup of food, so I will have to get food tomorrow morning.

Would you suggest I buy a bag of the same dry food he was on and slowly transition him to wet? Or might it be ok to just go straight for FF?

I have been slowly transitioning my new civvie for over a month now. She’s very resistant though since she didn’t even know what wet food was when I brought her home! I think it really depends on the kitty. If your guy likes the FF, you should be ok to switch since he’s been eating both already. It should cause minimal tummy discomfort.

My kitties were on the same diet as your new cat (1/2 can am and pm, dry free feed), and they both switched over to all FF no trouble at all when Josie was diagnosed (the other is a civvie).

he is changing homes so might as well change his food to all wet too especially since he already likes FF anyways. i think switching to only wet food when they are already eating it anyways, doesn't really require transition.. i personally would still buy a small bag of the dry to have on hand but, only give him a little at night if he isn't eating enough wet food during day at first. congrats on new kitty, you sound pretty excited about it :)

He may or may not like his food. Maybe he hates it and will be ecstatic to try something new. You'll never know until you try. The fact that he's eating wet food suggests he likes wet food so try feeding him more of it. I would suggest a fish free chicken or turkey variety though. It's not recommended to feed a cat fish every day.

He seems to be adjusting to his new home pretty quickly, so I hope adjusting his food is just as simple.

I'll see if the store has a small bag of dry. I think the Purina Beyond is something like 20-30% carbs, but they had him on some Redford variety, which I think is under 20%. The Redford food was a donation to them, so when it ran out, they fed him the next best thing, which was the grain-free Purina.

I don't plan to buy him much, if any, food that contains fish.
