Hi there! I have not been on much this weekend. I had so much to do with my other business. It's crazy. Abigail seems to be doing well but for some reason her ears are not producing blood as easily as they were. I am on a mission to help my girl though. Also my other cat Azrael who the vet said could potentially be diabetic is really starting to worry me. A few weeks ago he had his yearly check up. During his blood work his sugar was elevated. The vet said it could be the food so I've had him on nothing but wet low carb for the last 3 weeks. I have had a hard time getting him to sit still to be tested the last few days but his sugar is still running in the 200s. And he is starting to do what Abigail does and constantly is hungry. I am so worried about him now. I have to schedule a follow up. The vet said to schedule it after a few weeks. So he may be on the juice next. I am glad I am learning so much. His weight is still very good and I may be able to get him monitored very quickly. He will eat wet food. Abigail the spoiled little princess only eats dry food and I have yet to find a wet food she will even try. I do have her on the zero carb Young Again and she seems pretty interested in that. Now I still don't know what to do to get her weight up.

You do have your hands full....Nice number out of Abigail this morning. I found that warm ears make all the difference....and I use the same ear because mines a torti and its easier to see the vein on that one. Maybe go to a bigger Ismaller gauge) lancet - or just squeeze below the prick a bit like you are trying to get a splinter to pop out - that usually gets me more blood. Even if Azrael needs to go on insulin - often its just for a very short time to help out while the pancreas heals itself so all is not lost.

But the constantly hungry could be lots of things including that he wants to do what she is doing.....or that he's really not getting enough canned food to make him happy. My non-diabetic 13 pounder eats about 9-10 ounces of food a day and he'd likely eat more if I let him - he's never met a food he didn't like including people food. Part of it is that mine freefed for a very long time, so the idea of having a bowl be empty seems to trouble him.

Wow Azreal is a 15 lb cat so he may just be extra hungry! I have been giving him extra too when he "asks" for it. I will just have to see what the vet says when I go for a follow up. I am going to try to test him again tonight. He is just so squirmy.

Maxwell my OTJ boy is a lean 17 pounder, and he eats about 8-10 ozs of food a day too. Then there is little Arabella at a whopping 5lbs who will eat barely 5ozs a day, depending if she likes the flavor or not.

That's Abigail. Never much of an eater so I am freaking out a little about how skinny she is. She was never super big. She is about 10 lbs now and was 12. Azzy is 15 lbs and eats about 6 ozs so you may be right. If he asks I will give him one of the small cans to snack on. So sometimes its 10 oz a day.

My Lucian was a very uncooperative cat for testing, the first 6 weeks. Try the 'kitty burrito'. Wrap him in a towel, from neck down, with his paws facing downward and see if it helps. Like I said, I had to do it for 6 weeks or Lucian would have left me in stitches! And I don't mean HA HA stitches! I would bundle him, like swaddling an infant, set him in my lap, test and then put him on the floor and remove the towel. Was much less traumatizing for us both, than to fight with him. After several weeks, he seemed to be so much calmer during the test, that I tried it without and have never needed the towel since. I NEVER thought I would see the day I didn't need the towel. After 14 yrs with Lucian, I thought I knew him and that he would continue to fight me forever. But I was wrong. ohmygod_smile He is so mellow now, it's like someone stole my cat and replaced him with a 'calm clone'. :o
