Thank you Michelle for inviting me.

It was so cool, I especially liked the hawks, owls, wolves and native dancers. I'm so excited to have the pictures I took, I only wish I knew how to post them. We're going to do this again on Oct. 30th.

I hope you guys like the photos as much as we do.

Ps Michelle, Harley loves his present.

wow those are wonderful pics. i kept looking for a pic of robin :-D could'nt find her amoung wolfes or native dancers

I don't even think taking photographs of each other was on the agenda until the red tailed hawk dazzled Robin. I'm fine with my photograph to be posted here, but I complied with Robin's wishes about not posting her photo. Although, if she did get some weird ones of me dancing, I might like to be able to play editor if those are going to be posted. I know the photos my mom took of me dancing - a few of them are of me with a goofy look on my face - that is probably natural, but no... you can't see those.

The Red Tailed Hawk DID dazzle me. He looked me in the eye when I took his picture. It turned out great. That's why we had to have to photo opp with him.

The dancing pics I took are of someone dancing openly and freely, next time I will dance with you.

Ok here is the pic that Michelle took of me.

Sorry, I don't know how to attach. Maybe Michelle can.

Lions & wolves & bears, OH MY!!!!!

Those are some really super-cool pictures, what a great place to volunteer. I didn't realize they had mountain lions in the midwest (?) :dizcat

Hi Joanna,

Thank you for looking at Michele's pictures. It was such a great event and we had a fabulous time. Most of the animals there have been injured and are not elegible to be released back into the wild so this is their sanctuary. It's a small non profit, doing their best.

Living in the midwest (sticks) has it's advantages (all things wild) I actually have a family of deer that sleeps in my yard every night (drives the dog nuts) but it's fun to watch the new fawns every year.

The center has one of those surreal beginnings - it was a federally funded wolf project for several years when the feds decided they were done. From what I've heard, the employees were told to put down all of the animals and the universal reply was NO. So a few of those people took on the responsibility and changed the scope of the program. It's still a hugely educational purpose, but it moved from a federal research plan to a public education plan.

The center is still located on state land, leased from the MN DNR, but they have purchased property to the north in the hopes to move out on their own. They want to expand the habitats, and the programs offered. The lady who I guess we'd call the BOSS also rescues at risk for euthanasia dogs. A recent addition named Piper is a small breed who was said to be aggressive and to attack children. She is only a love, and has acted well alongside children who know how to respect an animal.

They still do work with the federal government. They house several at risk wolf species that are being researched to help their wild counterparts. They also have a relationship with a Canadian province (I want to say Alberta, but I could be wrong), to take wolf pups from the wild whose parents are being culled as a population control. The species of animals at the center are fairly based around Minnesota ecology, but many of them are pets-gone-wrong. At least one raccoon came from a household, and their skunk did also. I'm going to go out on a limb and say the wolf hybrids are also pets-gone-wrong.

Many of you might have that wonderful invention I refer to as "non-network television". A few years ago the center was on Animal Planets show called "Growing up... Wolf".
