A question about bounces...

So I 'm having difficulty regulating Thomas. It was suggested that he is getting low, particularly overnight, and the inconsistency in numbers might be due to his bouncing.

Everything I read in the protocol suggests you want to get them low and keep them there so the pancreas can take a break and heal.

So how do you keep then there if they bounce everytime they get low?

no answer for you! very curious to see what everyone else says. I think it's the million dollar question!!! I'd sure like to know since I have a Bouncing King myself!

Some cats are not bouncers. Mine is. I've heard that they stop the bouncing, eventually.

From my experience with Racci and from what I've seen with some of the other fd kitties, they do eventually stop the bouncing or bounce less. For instance, Racci used to bounce on blues and she would get pink numbers when she bounced. Then she started getting yellow numbers when she bounced on blues, then stopped bouncing on blues and only bounced on greens. Now Racci rarely bounces even on greens and when she does, it's rarely anything higher than a yellow. In Racci's case, she had one really bad bounce that lasted over a week and all of a sudden when that cleared it was as if she got the bounces out of her system and things had changed. I noticed it right away. It did not happen overnight though. Racci just became really regulated recently and she's a long term diabetic but ECID. You just have to be patient. Feed small meals often and that helps and just wait it out.

Kitties bounce because their bodies aren't used to being in those lower normal numbers. Over time, though, many kitties do get used to being in those lower normal numbers again (We call it "Liver Training School", or LTS), and the bounces start getting smaller and fewer, and hopefully eventually stop. But, ECID...some perpetually bounce, some never bounce, my own Trix will stop bouncing for long periods, then decide to start bouncing a bit again.

Bouncing (and FD in general) is one of those "Patience Pants" sort of things...you may have heard it here before, but FD is a marathon, not a sprint.
