Are there any programs out there like IMOM for these folks? Kitty was DX today, not eating, maybe Fatty Liver. He needs to be at the Emergency clinic tonight but they are losing their house and just can't afford it......they love their kitty so this is a real heartbreaking situation.

Dr B recommended they call me to help with home testing......I'd love to help but I think kitty has bigger issues and needs 24 hr care with fluids. They haven't called yet and kitty may not even make it throught the night but I'd like to tell them there is help out there.

Anybody have any ideas? DCIN is stretched tight these days .....

There was a list at one time but I can't seem to locate it......

There is no cash I can donate but I have syringes, all the supplies, and access to a few cases of low carb canned food.
Let me know if this will be of help and when.

just sitting around missing him would be an embarrassment to Tom. I'm his bean, a better person cause of him right?

They could at least try going to the dcin blog and sending an email to me or one of the other case managers on the contacts page. Or pm me more info?

Hi Gail. Thanks for helping these folks.

Well, there is IMOM. This does sound like a situation that would qualify for IMOM. Here is their financial assistance page. IMOM only pays for care given after all the assistance paperwork is filed, the vet is on board with IMOM payments, and IMOM approves the application. So the quicker these people move on the paperwork, the more of a chance they have for help.

DCIN lists some financial assistance sites on this page.

You are right that DCIN is stretched thin these days. But we can try to help. A feeding tube (E-tube) is not that pricey if it is put in by a regular vet. If a tube is needed because of the fatty liver, DCIN will pay for that surgery and a case of the A/D food, up to $400. That should cover it. And if the vet will cut us a price break, we might even be able to get some IV fluids and potassium (which is usually needed with FL) on board with that $400. An ER vet costs about $1,000/day, and even though that would be the best for the cat, neither the family nor DCIN can afford it. We've seen regular vets save cats in these situations when money is tight.

I will be the DCIN case manager on this. You and the family can contact me at Venita@DCIN. info. I will also PM you my phone number. I am on Eastern time.

Thanks for the info and offers to help..... kitty was in a bad way last night so sadly this may not be an issue. Dr had doubts that without ER care kitty would get through this but who knows......I have seen these two Dr's pull off some amazing things.

I will know more this morning Dr said she was going to call the parents as soon as it was a decent hour and then let me know. She left the catheter in and asked that they bring him back asap this morning. She also said she would help pay for some of the treatment herself....

I want to be ready with info in case they need it.

I don't think they will do a payment plan unless it is a long time client. They discount everything as it is and go out of their way to keep the costs down.
