Hello,
My name is Véronique,I'm a french breeder.
Since two weeks my little devon rex girl was seek, she has lost weight and the vet has done blood analysis;with an eleveted blood-sugar level. The vet does not know the cause. She also have a high rate of white blood cells.
My cat is young and is not in overweight that's why my vet don't understand what happened.
She has some insulin in the morning and evening : 0.4u and diabetic food.
It's very difficult to bring her the insulin.
I need your help.

PS:my english is not so good,I'm sorry

Welcome Veronique,

I have sent a message to one of the members of this board that I know happens to speak French, so hopefully she will pop in today and be able to help you out in your own language.

But for now welcome to the FDMB family. Don't worry about your English not being all that great, we are pretty good about either finding someone here that can help out in your native language, or asking for explainations for things we don't understand...heck, we have to do that with those of us that speak English.

Some of the things folks here will be asking you:

What does your kitty eat? I know you said diabetic food, but can you give us the name of it? Is it canned/tinned wet food or is it dry kibble?

What is the name of the insulin that your vet prescribed for your kitty?
If you can just read the bottle and give us the name that is on it, that will help us find the right folks to give you the best help, since we have lots of cats here that are on different insulins, and each insulin works slightly differently. For example my cat Musette is taking the insulin Lantus/glargine

And lastly, are you testing her blood sugars at home? And if not would you be willing to allow us to teach you how?
We have taught thousands of people over the internet and it is one of the best ways to not only keep her safe while she is on insulin, but to allow you to know exactly how well the insulin is working for her.

If she has a high white blood cell count I would suspect that she has an infection somewhere, did your vet saying anything about her possibly having an infection, the most common one in diabetic cat is a urinary tract infection, since they spill sugar into their urine that can quickly become bacteria that causes infection.

It is better than my French!

Did your vet do a fructosamine blood test? It is the definite test for cat diabetes - a blood test that has to be sent to a lab. That will show you whether it is diabetes or something else (like an infection) that is causing the higher glucose numbers.

Read through some of the threads on this page from new members. They will give you great information on our methods (testing at home, starting at a low dose and increasing slowly and feeding wet LO carb food.). We have European members who can help with food.
