Just 2 years ago - those of us with hi dose cats really didn't have any options open to us to treat our cats exept for symptoms as they came up.
Yes - we treated them with increasing doses of insulin - Beth's Pickles was on doses as hi as 100units PZI/day. http://petdiabetes.wikia.com/wiki/Categ ... _PZI_cases
Many of us no longer posted our doses on the board as we often were told we were killing our cats even tho we knew there was nothing more that could be done for them. It's called ACROMEGALY! a pituitary tumor that prevents the cat's body from using their own insulin. In HUMANS - we know them as GIANTS - like ANDRE the giant!
PBS has often done specials on this conditon.
Well late 2006 Dr Lunn at Colorado State University began doing Stereotactic Radiosurgery and many of our own FDMB kitties became part of that study. The very first from here was Joan and Maddie. This has become the first REAL promising treatment for our kitties! More about this to come.....
You can read about all these people in our own hi dose section here on FDMBor over on catacro http://catacromegaly.com/501.html - sister site to FDMB run by our own Rebecca. Better yet - help support Rebecca and catacro and learn more about acromegaly and 2 other hi dose conditions - cushings, and insulin auto antibodies by buying one of our first ever catacro calendars. http://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopi ... =4&t=23984
Buy one for your vet. It's filled with links to all these sites including all kinds of nutrition, fun facts, and of course pictures of your hi dose friends.
And THANKS to all of you who always support all of us thru thick and thin. We are so grateful to you! :YMHUG:
