A Few General Questions to Ask

Shelby has been remission now for 6 years but his BG readings are beginning to go up slowly. He has a bladder infection in which I have been giving antibiotics for one week now. Shouldn't his BG readings be going down with the infection now after a week of antibiotics? He is still not reading high enough to give insulin though.

Also he has arthritis in his right front leg. I have been giving Dasuquin but it really doesn't seem to help. What is Adequan and is this better than the Dasuquin? I give the Dasuquin almost every day since August. Helps but he still has a limp and some days are worse than others and hate giving it every day.

Do you think Shelby is going to go back to needing insulin in the future again with the levels slowly creeping up? or should I wait until I am fully done treating with the antibiotics before really doing a full curve?

Also I saw an add in the Cat Fancy magazine for Indigo Moon Holistic Cat Food. Does anyone have any information on this. It is low in carbs and 34% protien and no wheat gluten. Is this good for diabetic cats?

Thanks.

Did they do a culture and sensitivity to make sure the antibiotic WOULD work?

If he hits diabetic numbers, then yes. Excess glucose can cause damage to tissues.

Can't help with the other 2 topics.

I would wait until you're done treating the infection before doing a curve. Other illnesses can certainly throw off BG.

What numbers, exactly, are you getting?

Didn't do a culture on him as I had another cat (nondiabetic) that had the same issues so I called vet and just got the same antibiotic. I tried to get a pee sample to take in but didn't get enough and I will have to wait until he is off antibiotics for a while to get a sample in now.

His numbers are ranging from 92-130. He used to run in the low 70s all the time.
