Good Morning! Based on Gideon's history, he could go into the BLUES or GREENS today, because of the YELLOW AMPS. He has had times where he went back into PINK or even RED after a YELLOW morning. He is unpredictable for sure. So, his historical data doesn't always help.
This morning, I will test every two hours....is this sufficient?
If I see him getting into the BLUES, should I give 8-9% carb food to avoid the GREENs that may be coming?
I just want to give him the best chance of having a good day.

Thanks!

Gideon rec'd 2% carb food this morning. At +1 BG=300. I want to avoid severe bounces, because they seem to take longer to clear now. Also, I am trying to avoid a hypo event. My Gideon has been low GREEN before (w/Alphatrak). It is quite scary trying to stop the plunge.

I understand it can be quite nerve wracking dealing with suddenly low numbers - so here's what I'd suggest.

Get a 1 and 2+ and if he's sliding down start feeding and testing hourly until you can get him to level out - having flat numbers without getting more food will allow you and him to take a pokie break.

It's the only way you're going to get him down to the point where the numbers are more blues and greens than higher numbers. You're right, the bounces aren't good, but they are normal. It's his body responding to the lower numbers by dumping a load of glycogen(sugar) from his liver into his blood stream.

The best way to prevent those bounces is to stop the drop - and to do that you've got to test and feed that curve. I've noticed by looking over your SS that there are long spans of time with no test and then suddenly he's in the 'green'...so the only way to prevent that from happening is with the data! Know what he's doing before he drops down into the green...he's catching you off guard - so you can outsmart him by getting ahead of these drops.

How is he doing this morning after his AMPS? Has it been two hours yet? Not sure what time zone you're in or when you gave the insulin...but it would be good to test early and test often.

Have a great day Shiloh!

BG@2.5 = 190. I just fed him 5% carb food. I will retest at +3.5, unless you think I should test at +3.
Did I give the proper carb %age food for a 190 reading on a cat that could be sliding down?
I guess I need to know at what BG to feed what %age carb food.
Thanks!

An hour is fine. Feed small amounts to keep him eating each hour. He needs to get used to lower numbers and feeding will slow the drop. Feeding the curve is the way to do it. Do you have an auto feeder? I’m trying to think of a way to do this when you work the nigh job.

No auto feeder. Cats are left wet food out all night. Husband will test at +3 tonight and then one other test during night if necessary.

Is +5% food okay for BLUE numbers or should I go to 8-9%?

Nice job on the testing! Stay with him, that was a nice big drop. Let's hope he can get to some lower numbers today without going down too low. Keep testing/feeding so you know where he's headed. The longer he's in the blues and greens the less the bouncing will be...as his body will become more accustomed to these better numbers...it takes time, but you'll get him there!

Thanks Sue. I did test at +3 and he is now 255. Next test will be at +4. Glad I am working from home today. I am in the EST zone south of Boston.

I thought today would be quite an active cycle, but I was wrong. We have had quite a colorful day!
