We have a civie who isn't real on board with "just" a wet food diet. After seeing what those high carb dry foods do, I ordered some 0 carb Young Again for her. They do love it, and Harley has been very interested in what she's eating, so we keep it sealed up in a room with the door closed.

Well, today he broke in and got into the food :( Let me just tell you that little smirk as he lifted his head out of the bag, stared at me coldly like "Oh yea, you tried to keep me from it and well I got it!" then proceeded to groom himself thoroughly and then plop on his bed, still with a grin. cat(2)_steam
I have been testing his BG levels and so far no damage, he was at 73 45 min after he ate the dry food and at 72 a few hours after.

We've had to be cautious and creative in hiding food from him in the past, but we have to take even more security measures.

He's persistent enough to open most Tupperware and bins, as well as cupboards, cabinets and doors. He's tall enough that he'd been testing the lever door handles (but hadn't gotten the pull-push timing just right)....but I fear he finally figure it out today. So far no dramatic spike in BG...but I would prefer he doesn't do this again. Back to putting multiple different security measures.

When we first adopted him 11 years ago I actually had to build a box with a cut out hole that the other cats could fit into to feed them-otherwise he ate everyones food in minutes. At first he would shake the box, reach in and pull the bowls to him and eat the food. So I put Velcro on the far inside bottom of the box and on the bottom of the bowls so he couldn't reach them anymore. It has worked out great. But, now I need a better way to hide the dry food, because he is obsessing over it...

   So funny!! I can just see Harley reaching for those velcro'd bowls. It's gonna be tough coming up with a security system for this kitty!

Well the good news is he was at 66 this morning. He is so persistent...and creative...a bad combination ohmygod_smile

Well, that's great his numbers weren't affected by the YA. It seems everyone had good luck with that stuff except me!

Hope you can figure out a way to keep him out of the dry food! Good luck!
