The kitties had a fabulous morning. Everyone slept in (or at least stayed quiet!) until the alarm went off despite Brian getting up earlier and leaving. Today was my first morning of doing tests/feeding and getting myself ready and out the door. It went fine after I finally got Johnny's cold ear to give up a couple drops of blood! Tomorrow I'll do better. First test was 145 , so I "immediately" (again, took me a few minutes!) tested again and got 92. I think that first test was wonky.

So, Johnny's first day of nobody being around until dinnertime. Will he sleep all day? End up poking himself?

Re: 9/8 Johnny AMBG 145/92 OTJ Trial, Day 11

I seriously think he will be celebrating the alone time...ear poking not high on his list of things to do!
HAPPY DAY !! Johnny....
I like the AMBG=92 test result better....

Just realized we had a voicemail message on the machine tonight...Johnny's vet wanting us to bring him in on the 15th for some bloodwork (curve) to check his BG levels. Apparently, they think he may no longer need 2 units. I can't even imagine if we were still shooting 2 units. We tried, at the beginning, to keep them in the loop, but they always wanted him to come in for full-day curves. Not necessary since we were testing (they never mentioned hometesting..we found FDMB!). I sent the vet his spreadsheet over e-mail the third week in May and she responded that he may need a lower dose soon. She could still access it, if she wanted. It's funny knowing that Johnny is okay, but also very sad that some kitties/beans get such terrible follow-up/care....more than three months later, she checks in??

It really is scary! I plan to let them know that we felt extremely alone and scared and unsupported when he was diagnosed. The vet first offered to call in the insulin prescription for us to pick up. And we were like "We have no idea how to measure, shoot...and she was like "oh, I'm sorry." This is a HUGE well-known vet clinic in Chicago where even Oprah took her dogs. I'm so grateful to this board!! I'm going to ask the vet to give every bean of a newly diagnosed kitty my phone number...and I'll direct them here.
