Dose was increased to 1.0 IU yesterday, nice blue numbers across almost the whole day. See yesterday's thread.

I was a little concerned if Jai Jai's BG continued dropping after PM shot +4, but no, he got a bounce at +7.

Today, we have got another concern about his stool, hubby told that Jai Jai got some loose stool. I have no idea whether it is caused by constipation or diarrhea. Bought some psyllium husk and added to Jai Jai's lunch plate.

Did the same to Man Man (my another cat), because he also passed loose stools (extremely smelly stools, ugh!).

Finger crossed to my cats for their staying in good health.

Hi Hollis,

Just got your tagged message.

I've been sneaking peeks at Jai Jai's spreadsheet and I'm glad to see that his numbers have stopped swinging so widely (and scarily!). I know it can be frustrating to have to step back a bit in order to go forwards sometimes but it seems like your little fella is making progress now - and safely. :)

I'm sorry to hear that both Jai Jai and Man Man are both suffering from gastrointestinal upset. I'm concerned that both of them are producing loose stools. Do they eat the same food? Do they both go out? If it was just one cat with an upset tum I might not be so concerned but since both of them are poorly I do wonder whether it might be something that they ate? If your vet operates an out-of-hours telephone service I would ring them to get advice to be on the safe side. I'd definitely recommend getting your vet to check them over.

If it were me I'd probably hold off on the psylllium husk until I'd spoken with the vet.

Sending get-better-soon vibes to your kitties, and some :bighug::bighug: for you and your hubby.

I agree, a call to the vet might be in order. It's curious that both of them have issues, and possibly could be some sort of infection or parasite. Sometimes, though, my cat Jane will eat the houseplants and be sick. And whatever Jane does, Max just follows her lead.

Hi, Mogs and Meya. I am very very grateful when receiving your reply. I am very tired and frustrated.......as Jai Jai looked a bit lethargic these two days. He ate less food as well. I am still unsure about whether he has diarrhea or not, because I did not see he passed loose stool, but my hubby thought it was him.

Man Man passed loose stool for some time, I believe it started when we changed all his dry kibbles to canned food that messed up with his stomach. We give him FortiFlora every meal but it does not have much effect. We then give him back the dry kibbles and his stool firms up.

My three cats are not fed with the same food. Man Man is fed with chicken based canned food + dry kibbles. The third one (BB) is fed with tuna based canned food. Jai Jai is a mixed of both. What Man Man eat may not be the same brand as Jai Jai, unless there are some leftover.

They all are indoor cats, and they do not go out. They do not eat bugs even though Man Man plays and kills.

I can contact the vet but I do not want to have an earlier appointment which I think she will probably make a suggestion like that. Our upcoming appointment is on the next Sunday.

I am not going to give psyllium husks another time either.

I think I have to confirm Jai Jai's conditions first. Sigh.......it will be much better if he speaks to me.

One more thing I forgot to mention. Jai Jai vomits this morning after eating half of his meal. He regurgitated the hairball inside his stomach.

I told the vet last time that Jai Jai vomited hairball once a week, it took place after the meal. It is also noticeable that Jai Jai has fewer hair on some spots.

Is it caused by stress? Jai Jai hates going out but he was brought to visit the vet frequently after diagnosis.

You mentioned troubles with patches of hair. Have you checked for fleas lately, sometimes indoor cats can get fleas and these can spread tapeworm when they bite the cats. My mother in law's indoor cat gets fleas a lot because there are animals that come in the yard, and we probably track the eggs in the house on our shoes by accident.

Hairballs can cause constipation which can lead to loose stools. When there is a blockage, the body tries to move the blockage by adding water to the stool which can cause diarrhea.

Another thing that's possible food poisoning/parasites can pass from cat to cat in the litterbox. So one cat can start it if he eats something bad and spread it to others, including people who are cleaning up after them.

Canned plain pumpkin can help both constipation and diarrhea and might be a little gentler than the psyllium.

I'd be concerned about loose stool not improving within a week or so of the food change. Did you change suddenly? It sounds like at least one may have a food allergy to either the protein or grains in the food. It could be IBD. If left untreated this can lead to much more serious problems. I know this first hand changing to a kidney diet for early CKD led to loose stool for my Tiffany. Since it was most days but not all and only once a day we weren't concerned until she started vomiting. Please don't let this drag on. I don't want to scare you but this is not normal.

Hi Hollis,

I know it's lousy having to take our little ones to the vet. It's extra hard during the early days of dealing with diabetes because they need to be seen so often. That said, I really would recommend that you visit the vet as soon as possible to get both Jai Jai and Man Man checked over. Jai Jai's missing fur needs to be addressed because it may be due to an allergic reaction or possibly due to pain. Also because Jai Jai has diarrhoea, is lethargic and is not so keen on his food, I'd ask your vet to do a test for pancreatitis (Spec fPL) if only to rule it out.

Sending hugs ...

Fish is a common food allergy. Can you try eliminating it from his diet - making sure he doesn't get any of BB's food for a few days.

If you can't find a tin of plain cooked pumpkin, you can boil some squash and try it. Best of luck.

Hi, @Meya14 ,@tiffmaxee , @Critter Mom and @Wendy&Neko

Thank you very much for all your care and expert advice to JJ and MM. I was very tired last night and I went to bed at 10pm-ish. I did not plan to test last night, but I suddenly awoke at 00:30 so I was able to test.

I was hesitant to make an earlier vet appointment to JJ because I am not supposed to get a day off this week (I took three days off last week, and it's already caused a lot of office backlog. It's also an indulgence given that I have not taken more than two consecutive leave days since I was in this position two years ago).

Pumpkin is a good idea. But I'm afraid that JJ does not like it. Will you mix the pumpkin into his food or by a separate plate? I think JJ is feeling stressful, because he groomed his hair more and vomited hairball frequently. This issue was brought to the vet's attention at our last visit, she wanted to prescribe pills that prevented vomiting, but we refused it considering that JJ had been taking a lot of medications, treatments, injection and he did shown discontent.......when looking back, we made a right decision. If JJ really has got constipation, the hairball would be stuck at his stomach and had no where to go.

I tried not to feed tuna to JJ. I am giving less and less, but JJ does not like eating chicken alone. The baseline is, I have to get JJ to eat enough calories before taking away his favourite food. I know tuna is not good in long term, but I do not know what else can I do when he leaves half of his meal on the plate and I have to rush for work.

Speaking of fish as allergens, MM really is allergic to fish. We once tried to feed wet food, we did not have much idea that fish is not good to kitties, MM had got stomach problems with the tuna pouches. Then, we switched back to dry food and his problem was gone. I will avoid giving him any wet food right now, but he loves it very much.

Thank you all for your help and advice. Perhaps it is about the weather here, I was and am still in blues. Everything is so overwhelming and I do not have much idea how to cope with. Anyway, your messages mean a lot, and I do take your points. I will start with giving pumpkin and see if they will eat.

You just want to use a small amount of pumpkin to start, maybe no more than 1/2 a teaspoon and I do mix it in the food. I also use baby food squash which Max likes much better. My cats didn't look me organic pumpkin but liked Libby's canned pure pumpkin. Who knew the brand would matter!

I went to the supermarket during my lunch break, there was any pumpkin puree I could find. I end up bought a fresh pumpkin to make the puree by myself.
