I'm a little timid, but I'm thinking I'm supposed to give him his regular dose. I will be home to monitor him, I have lots of strips & high carb food.

Re: 9/8 Buster AMPS 261 - dose advice needed

Hi again Tara!

We like to link our previous condo in our current condo here in LL - it makes backtracking to find info much faster and easier. Here is Buster's 7th September Condo. If you don't know how to do the links, let us know, and we'll explain.

In case you missed my post in your previous condo, here it is once more:

Hi Tara, welcome to LL!

It sounds as though you could use a little Lantus Basics refresher course  Please take some time as soon as you can and read through the New to Lantus sticky, as well as the Lantus Insulin Info sticky.

Take your time going through them - there's lots of information to take in. When you've read them, post any questions you have and we'll be here to answer them, ok?
Hugs
Jane

I'll go and have a look at your SS and be right baclk with input on dosing, ok?

Thanks - yes, I need to do my homework again. I will do that today.

Ok Tara. SHOOOOT!

Now here's why: The BG is a *very* safe number up in those yellows. You will be home to monitor. You have test strips. You have HC. (I assume you also have LC, MC, karo.) You may be timid but we'll get you a set of BOS - you'll be needing those for LL-Survival

You increased to 0.5u last night I see - and I remember Marje noting that you need not necessarily have done so, given the dose-hopping that happened (frequent dose changes in quick succession) in the past days, and given that there is, at this early point, little data on Buster and how he will respond to Lantus. As Marje emphasized: Lantus needs consistency. I would try sticking with the current dose of 0.5.

Keep in mind, though: You did see green on that dose (see late August on SS), even on only 1 shot every 24 hours, and even after the over-filled shed (from the previous considerably larger dose) would have drained mostly.

Because you did see green, you will need to monitor closely, ok?

So, recap:
--- Test once more to get current pre-shot BG and use this shot time as your starting point for the following cycles. (Next shot 12 hours after actual shot time this morning.)
--- Shoot 0.5u.
--- Feed normal meal.
--- Get a (+1) test.

Then we can take it from there. Sound good?
Jane

P.S. Please do read the stickies I posted in the hour between shot and (+1) test, ok? It will help. You'll need to re-read them, most of us have done that and still do now and then to refresh. Also, please try to post a PROFILE of Buster, so that we have his background information all in one place in one quick click. (Medical history, FD history, DX date, Diet, etc.).

Re: 9/8 Buster AMPS 261 - dose advice needed

Awesome! Just for peace of mind I tested him again and he went up to 283 - time for breffis! I will watch him closely and stick to .5.

Here we go...

Re: 9/8 Buster AMPS 261

In case you missed that request earlier:

Please link your previous condo in your new daily condo from now on.

Here are the past few condos, back to the one where Dyana kindly supplied the link to the previous condo (though before that one, the same problem exists - the lack of previous-condo links):

6th September Syringe Change/Dose Change Question Condo
6th September Condo
5th September Condo
4th September Condo
3rd September Condo

Most days, we simply don't have the time to go through LL and backtrack further and further to chase up previous condos the way I've done here. But it's often important to know what was said/posted in those prior condos, so it reall is important that you link them from now on, ok? (We bookmark every single one of our condos, just in case. You may want to invest an hour and chase up the rest of your previous condos and save those links somewhere.)

Hugs
Jane

Re: 9/8 Buster AMPS 261, +1 294, +2 345, +4 341

glad you shot today.
It is a steep learning curve and there is always so much to digest in the early days.
It can take time to settle into a new dose ( even if it might be less than it was)

Everyone:
Tara switched syringes and the Terumo's are more accurate than the syringes she was using (which have a dead space that isn't accounted
for in the dose amount).
It is possible that the dose she is giving now is less than the .25 she was giving on the old syringes.
Marje's accounting for her old syringes ( same ones) is they had .46 more than 1 unit.
Tara doesn't have access to a micropippette to actually figure out the exact amount that her syringes differ.
So it was a conservative guesstimate
.

If someone could give her what to put in her spreadsheet to help all of you recognize the dose isn't really a "true" increase.
I had the same trouble with my own spreadsheet trying to make it clear.

Hope you have a smooth day , Tara and Buster. :-D
