Good afternoon,

Butch has been in the 300's today. He didn't want to eat any of his FF lc flavors at his AM meal, so he settled for a jar of Beech Nut baby food (beef and broth). I am not sure of the carbs.

I brought him to the vet on 8/30 for checkup and lab work and urine culture because his appetite has been little less, and I noticed that he was pawing when eating. Vet said his physical was fine and he didn't have many teeth most likely it was the food getting stuck. Vet repeated some bloodwork on 9/4 to confirm accuracy. Vet said that it came back fine.

Labs posted on spreadsheet

Butch continues to paw at his mouth and his bottom jaw chatters. I also noticed he is now pawing when he is drinking water too. My vet is closed today and tomorrow so I'll bring him on Monday to have his mouth elevated again (thinking x-rays mouth needed?)

I am worried about him not eating enough and shooting. Wondering if I should give an appetite stimulant.

Im not an expert here for diabetes, but I do know a thing or two. He definitely needs to eat, and the appetite stimulant would help with that. Did the vet mention anything about the high triglycerides? I know they can be high in diabetic cats but wondering if theres any treatment for it. I always refer to this website when I want to know about something on the blood work. Its definitely a good idea to take him back in to get his mouth checked. If they dont see anything, maybe they can do some dental xrays.

The baby food is low cal. It sounds like he does have mouth pain. The vet will need to sedate him for X-rays. If he will eat baby food I would shoot as his bg is high. Can you syringe feed should he not eat?

Hi Jo. Thank you so much.
I gave him the appetite stimulate and he ate tonight 1/2 can FF 1% and jar baby food (chicken & broth). While eating tonight I heard grinding.
The vet didn't mention anything about the triglycerides or the low platelets. He just said it came back okay. I received the lab report after I my phone call with him. I am going on Monday and will question. I will refer to the website, thank you for sharing. I appreciate it!:bighug::bighug:

Hi Elise. Thank you so much. :bighug::bighug:

I gave Butch the appetite stimulant and he ate 1/2 can FF 1% and jar baby food (chicken & broth) and I gave him his shoot. Tonight, while eating I heard the grinding that wasn't there earlier. Could the mouth pain cause his numbers to be high?

In May when Butch was in the hospital, I was told that he has a heart murmer. Could he be sedated or have anaestesia? Also. I noticed on his labs that his platelets are low. I am concerned if he needs extrations. If so, anything I should discuss with the vet?

It’s good that he ate. Murmurs can be benign or not. You would want a cardiologist to check him out before going under anesthesia. Pain definitely can raise the bg as can infection. You would want X-rays done when the dental is done if determined safe so he only goes under once.

Hi Madeline, I’m so sorry to hear Butch was not feeling well. I hope he feels better and eats for you today.
I’m glad you can take him to be checked on Monday to see what’s going on.
Sending you and Butch hugs and best wishes :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you so much, Staci. :bighug::bighug::bighug:
I am happy to say that Butch ate!
Butch's bg remains high in the 300s. I am thinking that it could be caused by his mouth. Should I increase his insulin?

I’m so glad Butch ate! That’s great news, Madeline. Poor baby. I hate to think his mouth is hurting. :bighug:
Let’s see if we can get you some advice on dosing. I’m not qualified to give advice there
