YIKES! After that lovely AMPS, I was so not expecting that +2 food spike! Maybe switching to the FF/BG mix wasn't the greatest idea after all! Of course it also usually does take her a few days to work through NDW, too...so, I'll attempt to keep the patience pants in place and hold everything steady for a bit.

In case we do get fully committed to FF, what is the best/cheapest source for it? I looked at case prices at PetSmart (online), and when I break it down by the can, it actually looks like my supermarket is cheaper at 55 cents a can vs PetSmart's 58 cents a can. Does anyone know of a better price than that? Thanks!

Happy Tuesday!!

Amy

Re: 9/6 Trixie AMPS 136 +2 177/cheapest source for FF?

Hi Amy, which flavor FF were you feeding Trixie? The FF turkey & giblets causes a spike in Maggie, as does also the FF chicken feast. But Mags is extremely sensitive to carbs, so each kitty reacts differently. As for pricing, sometimes I find it for $.47 in a grocery store vs. $.55 at PetsMart or Petco. Surprisingly our Walmart and Target charge more for FF than the pet stores. Whatever FF was mixed in did cause a little spike. Have a nice day and hope Trixie girl comes down.

Re: 9/6 Trixie AMPS 136 +2 177/cheapest source for FF?

Right now I have the FF classics chicken feast. I usually don't stray from chicken, in an attempt to keep things somewhat simple which I hope, in turn, won't lead to any major food aversions. I don't think Trixie is super-duper carb sensitive, but she does seem to be sensitive to foods that other kitties do well on...like Wellness Chicken really seems to increase her BGs, even though it's only supposed to be 4% carbs...

Re: 9/6 Trixie AMPS 136 +2 177/cheapest source for FF?

Hi Amy, I think she is similar to Maggie as she doesn't do well on some of the Merrick either, and Wellness is not a favorite. Mags does well in FF Seafood Feast, but it's fish. It's a challenge finding something she likes that is diabetic friendly for her.

Re: 9/6 Trixie AMPS 136 +2 177/cheapest source for FF?

Trixie's not SUPER picky, but she's not real fond of the Merrick BG or the EVO, both of which give her really nice BGs. She loves Wellness, but her numbers climb on it. I've always avoided seafood...I'm afraid to head down that path. This is my first attempt with FF; she's only had two meals of it, so I think I do need to give it a little more time...

Re: 9/6 Trixie AMPS 136 +2 177/cheapest source for FF?

I have found coupons on Target and the manufacturer's website that offer $.50 off for 3 cans....so that takes about .17 off per can! It seems cyclical, I just searched and didn't see one now...but be on the look out because every month or so they pop up. I just mass buy at that time.

Also, I use Special Kitty from Walmart - they sell 4 cans of the low carb for $1.23 and the cans are 5.5 ounces - much, much less than FF and from what I've read, it seems to be a very acceptable food for our sugar cats.

Re: 9/6 Trixie AMPS 136 +2 177/cheapest source for FF?

Good morning! I just buy our FF at Walmart. I am actually stopping today to buy some EVO and give it a try. Hope you figure it out. Trixie is like Tarragon and a little picky huh?

Have a great day!!

Re: 9/6 Trixie AMPS 136 +2 177/cheapest source for FF?

Walmart sells their cans for (I THINK) $0.56/can or so. I used to get 24 cans at a time before I switched her food.

That +2 looks more like a food spike. I hope that you have a good day.

Re: 9/6 Trixie AMPS 136 +2 177

Thanks everyone! It sounds like there isn't any one magically extra-cheap source for FF, so I'll keep my eyes peeled for sales, coupons, etc...unless Trix decides she's not going to stick with it, that is!

Re: 9/6 Trixie AMPS 136 +2 177

Walmart here is $0.58 a can or $13.48 for a 24 pack. Usually in the 24 pack, there is a coupon for $1.00 off on one of the dividers. Target will also have buy one 24 pack get one free a couple of times a year.

Hi guys .. sorry to see that food spike .. hopefully trixie can bring those numbers back down .. We also used special kitty from wal mart, but recently they stopped selling it .. Now we've switched over to 9 lives chicken, which mocha eats, but not with as much gusto as turkey and giblets from wal mart .. have a great day guys!

Re: 9/6 Trixie AMPS 136 +2 177

I bet the +2 is just a food spike and Trixie will come down nicely. Simon is always so much higher at his +2. He is like Maggie -- spikes on the FF turkey but not so much on the chicken. He also is lower on the fish dinners but I know that is not great for cats so I am trying to limit the amount. I was surprised that the grocery store is cheaper than Petsmart for FF. You would think it would be the opposite. Have a great evening and hope you see some nice lower Trixie numbers tonight.

No food spike this evening!

Yeah, I'm surprised the market is a bit cheaper on FF than PetSmart, too. She's not as interested in it today as she was yesterday...now it's matter of seeing if she gets totally bored, and what it does to her numbers over the course of several days...

Hi Amy!! I've been so busy with work (yuck) that I haven't been paying attention to little Trixie!! I didn't realize you've been increasing Trixie's dose. I just looked at her SS and I realize you must be feeling even worse than me!! Thank goodness you seem to have a good attitude about it, though, so I'll use you as my role model!!

On the Fancy Feast, Target seems to have it on sale often, usualy $11-$12 for a box of 24. Unfortunately, that box of 24 has turkey & giblets in it which Champ HATES. If Tarragon likes the Beef Feast, Chicken Feast, and Turket & Giblets, you can also buy a 36 or 48 pack (I can't remember which) for around $18 at Sam's Club if you have one near. Champ's favorite flavor is the Beef Feast and he likes the Beef and Chicken. Be careful of the Special Kitty food if Tarragon is prone to sensitivies. I'm pretty sure that's the food that broke Champ out in hives. Always check your local Petsmart online when you're ready to do a cat food run. I found FF there for $0.45 a can which is pretty good.
