Re: 9/6 Tibbs amps 295!! +3 200 !! excited/nervous re: fast

I'd test at +5 and plan from there. Does he have free access to the "zero" carb dry food now? When kitty first hits greens, we'll give a tsp or two of their regular low carb wet food to help them surf. If he's on the Young Again, then hopefully he'll much a bit if he feels himself getting low.

Looking good - next test blue! :-D

hi Wendy
yes he does have free access to the young again as well as some low carb wet food. i will test at +5. i am a nervous wreck. he is dropping so fast. it's great but i'm so afraid he'll drop too low. i will check at +5. thanks

Re: 9/6 Tibbs amps 295!! +3 200 !! +5 203

his + 5 is 203. what do you think? what's next? thanks

Re: 9/6 Tibbs amps 295!! +3 200 !! +5 203

He's slowed down a lot, so you might want to test again at +7 or +8....those are times you don't have many test results in on your spreadsheet

Nice to see something other than pink or red! (or that awful black!)

no kidding. i am so happy. i will test again at around +7 or so.
thanks so much

Re: 9/6 Tibbs amps 295!! +3 200 !! +5 203

yes. a few licks of wet food and a few pcs of the young again zero carb. are we supposed to not let them eat if we are testing every 3 hours?

Re: 9/6 Tibbs amps 295!! +3 200 !! +5 203

No, small meals are fine...it's just kind of unusual for them to drop 95 points in 3 hours and then just stop dropping like that (although a lot of us don't feed after +6 because the insulin is naturally starting to wear off)

Makes you wonder if they got into something they shouldn't have in the way of food

Keeping a good record of what/when you feed on your spreadsheet could help you to figure out if he's really carb sensitive

Re: 9/6 Tibbs amps 295!! +3 200 !! +5 203

this is the first full day that he was off the "bad" dry food so maybe his system is adjusting to only zero carb food? he started dropping as soon as i stopped the d/m dry food and the past 24 hrs he has just had low carb wet and young again zero carb dry. is it possible his system is just clearing all that higher carb junk?

Re: 9/6 Tibbs amps 295!! +3 200 !! +5 203

great job getting him off the dry! that can be a huge challenge!

yes, it can take a full 24 hrs for dry food carbs to work out of their systems and for you to see it in the blood sugar tests. It's also possible that he'll have an early nadir, like at +3 or +4. The speed of the drop isn't usually consistent from one hour to the next, but it does give you a little bit of info. If a cat drops too fast, like over 50 points in an hour, that can trigger a bounce. If he dropped at a consistent rate, that'd be about 30 points an hour - which is fine.

Let's just play it by ear and see how he does.

All you have to do is watch to try to catch if he goes under 50. That's your Significant Number at this phase. :-D

When he gets into green numbers, give him 2 teaspoons of regular low carb food - sometimes that will help him stay in green numbers for a longer amount of time. The goal is long stretches of time between 50-120 to help his pancreas heal.

Kinda exciting! great job handling it all.

thanks Julie. it's just so nice to see some progress. thanks for all your help.

Re: 9/6 Tibbs amps 295!! +3 200 !! +5 203

you're welcome. it's awesome to see him flirting with blue numbers, even! he's almost there. go Tibbs!

He's not used to these numbers, so he's bounced. Take a look at the second post in that link - it describes bouncing.

you can wait on getting another test now til pmps. if he's still high then, i'd get one tonight about +3 or +4, and if he's still high (over 300) then check the amps. We call these "save a strip" cycles, once the bounce begins. While he's staying high, just get the preshot tests and one mid-cycle test in.

i understand the concept of bouncing, i just didn't realize that it would happen that quickly but i guess it does make sense. thanks for reassurance. even when you know it's happening, it is so disappointing to see those high numbers again. hopefully it will clear fast. thanks julie

thanks Sandy.
it was very exciting to almost see blue today. hope all of you folks are doing well with your kittys too. it is wonderful to know you are all here to explain this whole sugar dance. i don't know what i would do without you all. hugs.
