Good morning LL!

Tarragon is up again this morning. When they sent him home, they also sent liquid cephalaxin in case he had an infection. We are still waiting on the culture test to come back. They had antibiotics in his iv for 3 days at the hospital. Well, he has been fighting me big time on syringing it, so last night I just didn't do it and his appetite was better than it has been since he got home. I think having to hold him down to syringe it, the taste, and maybe the medicine itself was upsetting his tummy and stressing him out. I am going to call today and see if they got the results back. If there is an infection I am just going to have to pick up pills.

Back at tbp today. But only a 3 day work week. Friday is Day of Caring for United Way and my company is the main Trailblazer for the Tulsa chapter. About 1,000 people from my company alone participate. My group will be working at the Child Care Resource Center reading and playing with the kids. Fun stuff!

Hope you all have a great day!

Re: 9/6 Tarragon AMPS 429

Morning, Melissa

Ok, Tarragon, that's a bit high for you this morning. What's up with that? Come on down, please, ok?

Melissa, it's the Chicken & Turkey flavor that I was referring to. 0% in carbs, if you want to give him that. 38.2 calories/oz. Hopefully with that he'll put on the necessary weight.

I hope that you have a good day, guys!!!

Re: 9/6 Tarragon AMPS 429

I hope Tarragon comes down nice-n-easy today.

Hopefully you'll be good to go without the antibiotics. I'm sure you're right...the whole combination of syringing, taste, and general yuckies of ABs were probably messing with is appetite. Wishing you good news with the test results!

Have a great day!

Amy

Re: 9/6 Tarragon AMPS 429

Hi Melissa, sorry Tarragon is so high, and I hope the Vet has the results of the test. Nice for a three day work week at tbp! Your work sounds very interesting. Have a nice day and feel better vines for sweet Tarragon.

Re: 9/6 Tarragon AMPS 429

Hoping the vet has nice results and we're keeping our fingers crossed for no infection. Those abs really turned Tray off his food.

Re: 9/6 Tarragon AMPS 429

Hi Melissa & Tarragon,
I hope you get T's test results back today and that his appetite will get better. Those liquid antibiotics probably taste awful! You may do better with pills. He will get back his weight soon, I'm sure, as soon as whatever bug he has is taken care of.
Come on, Tarragon, clear that bounce and eat your food!!

Ella & Rusty

Thanks for checking on Rusty.

Re: 9/6 Tarragon AMPS 429

OK bouncy, Mr. T....settle down....I hope getting a pill form of antibiotic makes it easier. Zoe will eat Clavamoc crushed up in her food. Feel better, Tarragon.

Have a good day, Melissa!

Re: 9/6 Tarragon AMPS 429

Hello Melissa, I missed out on all the action while out of the country, and Liz kept me posted on Tarragon. How stressful and I am glad he is doing so much better.

We have similar eating issues with Mr Picky Zener and we are trying to maintain his weight. Can you tell me what food Angela is referring to? Did you try it and would Mr T eat it?

Tarragon, you and Zener need to get off that trampoline!

Re: 9/6 Tarragon AMPS 429

Hi guys .. Glad to hear that tarragon is back home and without the liquid meds his appy is better .. hoping you hear from the vet today and that he doesn't have an infection ... Now, come on down tarragon .. I know you haven't been feeling well but now you are at home and can come off the red floor .. have a great day!

Re: 9/6 Tarragon AMPS 429

Talked to the vet this morning. She got the urine culture back and he was negative for infection. That is so frustrating after I stressed the poor guy out all weekend with the liquid meds. Oh well. It is actually good news.

Re: 9/6 Tarragon AMPS 429

Great News for Tarragon!!!--No more icky ab's--BTW when you give cats ab's whether liquid or pills, they should have some food first, or it can cause stomach distress..Hope the new news will help him to heal better without ab's! Hope your sweet boy comes down from that bounce!
I'm sure he will feel all better asap! Sending green Healing Vines to our dear friend Tarragon-
Lubs & Hugs from us!!! :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Re: 9/6 Tarragon AMPS 429 - METER SUGGESTIONS

Time for new strips. I use a Bayer Contour and am going broke buying strips. Any suggestions for a different meter??

Re: 9/6 Tarragon AMPS 429 - METER SUGGESTIONS

Great news on no infection and I'm glad he's eating better without the AB. Now come on down Lil T!!

No suggestion on the meter since I use a OT Ultra Mini and the strips are even more than the Contour! Do you get them on ebay?

Great that you only have to work 3 days this weeks!! What a great job you have working with a company that works with United Way!! Have a awesome day.

Re: 9/6 Tarragon AMPS 429 - METER SUGGESTIONS

I love the walmart confirm. Its a bit on the big side but for $9 it was consistent and only a drop of blood. 100 strips for $39 at walmart.

up in Canada strips are a minimum $75 for 100 so I drove down and bought the confirm and a few hundred strips.

Re: 9/6 Tarragon AMPS 429 - METER SUGGESTIONS

Good to hear that there is no infection and you can stop w/ the yucky abs. Hopefully he will start eating better now.

I happened to notice on the strip jar (Relion confirm) that the listed distributor was Arkray, so I ran it through ADW. The Glucocard 01 looked exactly like the Relion Confirm, so I took a chance and ordered some strips and also include a meter, just in case. Turns out, it was the same,

The strips for the Relion Confirm / Arkray are even cheaper at ADW than at Walmart. It's a nice way to have an inexpensive place to get strips online, but still have a retail source for emergencies. ADW still has the Maxima meter too although the company has discontinued the meter they are still making the strips for it. Those strips are only about $17 a box of 50, that's what we use.

Re: 9/6 Tarragon AMPS 429 - METER SUGGESTIONS

Good news on the negative infection! Hopefully he comes down for you!

I also have the WalMart Relion Confirm. I really like it. And the strips are cheap. I think I get 100 for $36.

Re: 9/6 Tarragon AMPS 429 - METER SUGGESTIONS

Hi again,
I like the Walmart ReliOn Micro. Costs are the same as the Confirm. I have both a Micro and a Confirm and use them as back-ups since I changed last spring to the FreeStyle Lite because it got raves from some of the beans here. It is a bit more expensive, but you can get the kit (meter, test solution, lancets and lancet device, 10 strips, log book) together with 200 test strips at American Diabetes Wholesale for $118: http://www.americandiabeteswholesale.com/product/free-freestyle-lite-meter_28_1.htm

The blood sample needed is miniscule.

Whenever I order I just order this "combo" package again and again, since it is cheaper than buying only the strips!! (And, then I have a bunch of spare meters, log books, test solutions, etc. plus the 10 "extra" strips that come in the kit.

Everyone has their own preferences.

Re: 9/6 Tarragon AMPS 429 - METER SUGGESTIONS

I had switched from the Freesyle to Relion Micro because of the price of strips, the relion the least expensive strips I was able to find. I just bought a box of 100 from the store (Walmart - of course) for $36.

Edit: I forget how much they are if I would have ordered it from walmat.com

Re: 9/6 Tarragon AMPS 429 - METER SUGGESTIONS

wow...i had no idea you went through this with Tarragon!

sending late but heartfelt healing vines!

Re: 9/6 Tarragon AMPS 429 - METER SUGGESTIONS

I also use a Relion Confirm- I'd been getting supplies from Walmart (and it was pretty cheap) but now that I know I can get the Arkray from ADW I'm totally switching to them. I love the Confirm and highly recommend!

Re: 9/6 Tarragon AMPS 429 - METER SUGGESTIONS

if you are buying online from ADW, don't forget mrrebates.com - sign up there and click to ADW through them, and you'll get 8% rebate back. wahoo.

sienne just posted a link to the consumer reports on meters - you might ask her for that. i don't recall whose condo it was in, although it was over this weekend, so you could stalk her posts and try to find it. sorry sienne, for sending you a post stalker! or you could just ask her in a pm. that might be more polite. :-D

glad to hear T doesn't need more antibiotics! another bit of awesome news!

Re: 9/6 Tarragon AMPS 429 - METER SUGGESTIONS

I also use the ReliOn Confirm. The ReliOn Micro is the same price, but smaller, and uses the same strips as the Confirm. The micro also has a smaller memory so not as many tests are saved, but how many do you need to keep in memory anyway when you have a spreadsheet? I like the Confirm, though. The strips are cheaper at Sam's Club. I learned from Christie (and Willie) that the maker of the ReliOn meter, Arkray, sells a meter called GlucoCard 01 at American Diabetes Wholesale that is the twin of the ReliOn Confirm. They use the same strips, but the strips for the GlucoCard 01 are much cheaper. You can get the meter with 100 strips for $32. The kit comes with a pretty neat lancet device and a small bottle of control fluid. Here's the link for all the GlucoCard 01 products: http://search.americandiabeteswholesale.com/search?keywords=glucocard 01

Now, Tarragon!!!! Down the ladder mister!!!

Re: 9/6 Tarragon AMPS 429 - METER SUGGESTIONS

Hi Melissa,

I use the Accu-chek A viva.....I get my strips from eBay and pay between $15-20 for 50 strips. About 3 months ago I had a problem with a button sticking on the meter....didn't interfere with the working off the meter, but was annoying....so I called, the company and told them what was going on, they OVERNIGHTED me a brand new one. I was surprised and pleased. :-D

Re: 9/6 Tarragon AMPS 429 - METER SUGGESTIONS

Melissa, wonderful news about Tarragon not having any infection. Those oral meds are terrible. Simon hated every minute of them and fought me all the time. Very stressful! Have fun at the Day of Caring. What a nice way to spend the day and very rewarding. Have a great evening.

Re: 9/6 Tarragon AMPS 429 - METER SUGGESTIONS

I use the ReliOn Ultima, strips are $36.00/100 at Walmart. I have never had a problem I also compared it to the AlphaTrak which I purchased when Tuffy was diagnosed and I never had the variance attributed to the cat/human meter. With the Ultima, you don't need a test solution.

Re: 9/6 Tarragon AMPS 429 - METER SUGGESTIONS

Yay on the negative culture!! dancing_cat dancing_cat

Tarragon.....whatcha doin up there big guy???

It was Leo's condo that Sienne and I had the conversation about meters, i was using the aviva accuchek but checked out the consumer report and discovered that it wasn't all THAT accurate, i had a one touch ultra mini as a back up and found out that it's pretty much the best meter out there in terms of accuracy......however, i may need to get a second job just to buy the strips!!!   Last week i bought 100 strips for the one touch and paid $76!!!! OUCH!! But i'd rather pay more for something that's more accurate. If my local walmart sold the Relion, i'd totally use that, it seems like everyone around here loves them and loves how cheap the strips are.

Yo T! When do you think you'll be better enough to come over to my grandparents place for mousing? Just yesterday i caught 4 of them!!!

Re: 9/6 Tarragon AMPS 429 - METER SUGGESTIONS

Sienne - I have been buying mine off eBay but haven't gotten that good of a deal. I really like my contour so maybe I'll just stick with it after reading your link. I will just become more vigilant in my eBay quest.

Thank you all for your input. I will check my walmart. We have great Walmarts here si they probably have them.

Tarragon was obviously hungry while I was gone today. I left out 6 oz of FF classic and it was all gone when I got home. Turnup eats like a bird so it must have been him. He was also asking for food when I walked in.

Hey Leo! 4 mousies? You rock. You have to teach me how. I only catch bugs. My mom said I can come tomorrow if it's ok with your grandparents. Luvz ya! - Tarragon
