Good Morning Lantus Land!!!! Sending healing vines to all our ailing kitties this morning and wishing them well.

We started Gracie at 0.5u levemir this morning. I have been watching her like a hawk. I know it seems like "Drama Queen" :lol: :lol: but if you've ever watched your kitty go into anaphylactic shock right in front of you, you will understand. Gracie has always been very sensitive to meds. I was like this when we started lantus, too.....afraid of an allergic reaction. I know it is rare but it does discuss it in the inserts for both meds. I know we can handle the numbers...that was never my huge fear. So 1.5 hours after her shot, she is out on the catio watching birds. She's had breffis 1 and 2 and seems happy and chirpy. Once I get her through the first few hours and know there is no reaction, then I will be 150% fine on the allergic rxn issue. Again...sorry for the drama!! We thought she was going to give us some lovely green numbers last night but her cycle, although blue, just tells me the .75u wasn't doing the job. I hope we can find a better fitting dose for her on lev.

Thanks to everyone yesterday for your help, support, and encouraging words. We are hoping beyond hope that this will flatten her out some.

I have to leave at 10:30 for my annual eye appt so I can get my contacts ordered. Mike is here and will be monitoring her closely. Have a great day.....off to check her again :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

You finally did it. Yay you!!! Hope it gives Gracie the extra push she needs. She will be fine mama bean. You are definitely a worrier. :lol:

I can only imagine how scary the anaphylactic (sp) shock would be to see. I would be a drama queen after that for sure. Good luck Gracie!!!!!

Ok..two hours and she's doing just fine. I hope I can take off my Drama Queen crown now.

And Jill's prediction that she would go higher is coming to bear right now. Lantus shed depleting; lev just filling. Glad I shot the .5u and caught her on the way up instead of on the way down. Patience Pants....check.

Devon: yes...we're almost at the year point and stuck between two doses. We thought we'd see if lev would flatten her out any.

Melissa; :lol: Finally did it. WOrrier....only when it comes to Gracie!! ;-) :lol: :lol:

Ann: it took me a few minutes to post. I'm still on the 7:30 shot time for now and will move her gradually back over the next few days. I had three other sets of eyes looking so pitiful that I had to feed them before I posted. Oh....and also check Gracie's breathing and for a rash...about 100 times :lol: :lol: :lol: I know it is stupid to be so worried about an allergic reaction but even the smallest doses of meds, etc, have affected her. Look how we got here...oral steroids, yes, but she hadn't had those in a few months. The topical steroids tipped the iceberg. I can't wait to see what she does, too. Please baby girl ....LOVE LEV!!

Karrie: it was horrible. She was only two and collapsed in the car on the way home from the vet. Thank God I was two minutes away, turned around and headed back. I was rubbing her, breathing into her mouth and nose, yelling at her, shaking her. Also thank God for cell phones because I called them and they were waiting at the door. Her gums were completely white but I had gotten her to come around. They said doing all those things probably saved her life.

I have to grab breffis and head to eye vetty. Mike is in charge. Everyone is relieved mamabean is going out :lol: :lol:

Tess....yeah...I'm not getting out of their sight today so you all should come over. She even keeps running her fingers through my hair looking for a rash!!! She's cccrrraaazzzyyyyy!!!

Morning guys!! drama queen... it's really A-OK - one should check when changing a major med. Good luck to everyone. it seems like she is out of the woods as far as the allergic rxn goes. Paws crossed! :-D I remember you talking about what had happened to her - you are justified in being worried.

Good luck today - the pattern as predicted is emerging.. I think it will be an ok day for her. out goes the old, in comes the new...

In a hurry so i have not read this condo completely but I do want to wish you luck with the Lev. Hope it helps little Gracie smooth out those curves to lovely blue/green steady BGs. Will check in later.

yikes - you must've been scared to death in the car. were you also driving? i usually take the kitters to the vet myself during the days and if that'd happened while you were driving . .. wow. i also didn't realize you were worried about an allergic reaction - that's so understandable that you waited for the right time to have help nearby to try it. good call.

sending good vibes your way for this to be just right for gracie. i think it was a wise choice to try something different.

we're all going to be watching gracie now. :shock: see my eyes. looking at you, gracie. :-D

Oh wow, I was waiting for your condo but had to leave, and I see now the Drama Queen is doing great! :YMHUG: Maggie and I wish you and Mike and Gracie lots of luck with the Lev and hope this is the answer. Was Gracie on Lantus when she went into the anaphylactic shock, or was it from another med, how scary! We'll be watching out for Gracie today.

I refuse to call you a drama queen since there's a history of adverse reactions in Gracie's past. I call it prudent watchfulness!! I sure hope this works out for miss cutie patootie. I'm praying as hard as I can!!

Oh I'm sorry, I am really on a roll with my goof ups today. I didn't mean to call sweet Gracie a Drama Queen. You were referring to yourself. Well, in that case we are all Drama Queens when it comes to our babies, no kidding. Take care and hugs.

Good afternoon... barely! I don't think you're a drama queen either (Gracie's thoughts notwithstanding!). If Willie had gone through that, I'd do the same. Miss Belle once had a horrible reaction to a flea med. Thankfully, I was able to get it off her quickly enough. As Patty said, you were prudent, which is good. :) Though, Prudence Queen really doesn't have the same ring... :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

Question for experienced ones in switching from lantus to lev: As Jill thought, Gracie is high today. Could we shoot 30 mins or even an hour early tonight? Or is that complicating things with also trying to fill a new shed while the old one empties? We were hoping she wouldn't go THIS high. We will follow whatever is best for her.

hmmm... since we're talking about gracie, i'm not sure i'd shoot any more than a half hour early tonight... only because she's been known to drop from 300s to double digits in a matter of hours.

otoh, in theory, her lev shed is still under construction. the dose can't be expected to work as we know it will once that lev shed is built. shooting an hour early is mighty tempting. not sure i could resist.

it's really a judgement call. if you decide to shoot an hour early you'll just have to monitor carefully (i know you'd do this anyway) and be prepared to bring up low numbers BEFORE she gets too low.

whenever one deviates from the norm you have to be prepared to deal with what happens. i'm not trying to sway you one way or another... it's really your call.

to those following gracie's story: marjorie and mike are experienced caregivers. between the two of them, gracie will be monitored 24/7 if necessary. they are comfortable with low numbers, know gracie's idiosyncrasies, and the most effective ways to bring her numbers up quickly.

Just checking in to see how things are going. Gracie...we're all keeping an eye on you girlfriend. We want you to switch over nice and easy.

Gracie, we're on our way to chill-lax with you and maybe see if we can calm your beans down too. I have my great big purrrrrrr motor running. Did you know that was one of the things the folks at the shelter loved about me. All they had to do was look at me ...and I'd start to purrr as loud as I could. ~~Attie

Hi Marje, Gracie, Mike,
I'm a little late so I missed all the fear of the anaphalactic shock. So glad it didn't happen! (It happened to me twice, on a dental dose of amoxicillin--passed out on the subway and wound up in the ER!) Gracie is a bit high, but, as you say, the Lantus shed is draining and the Lev shed is filling. Therefore there is, essentially, not much insulin for Gracie to use right now! It will be really interesting to see how she does. I think it may take some tinkering to get the right dose. We'll be thinking of you tonight and sending happy thoughts for success with Lev.

good luck with the Lev! Hopefully she'll get her shed finished quickly so she can start surfing. I agree with Jill, I trust you and Mike to make the right decision about shot time based on what is going on with Gracie at the time.

HI, I've been out all afternoon w/ my DM and DS. Come visit if you want to meet some real Drama Queens!

I'm glad Gracies has taken the change in stride and since she was starting to bounce the higher numbers are not that unexpected.

Question: Since you don't know yet how Gracie will react to the Lev, are you sure you want to change the shot time now? Maybe wait until you know where her new nadir will actually be?

Michelle: we only shot 1/2 hour early. We decided it would give us a little edge but wouldn't put us too far off our normal shot time in case she onsets/nadirs the same as lantus.

Lisa: wow....I'll post on your condo to find out why. I did look at DL's SS.
 
DH here - It doesn't look like her shed is very full yet, wasn't really expecting it to be tonight. I think I'll lay down for a while and check her at about +8 for a data-point poke. Night all.
