Hi everyone,

I haven't posted in a while, didn't want to bore everyone with the same old story.

We've been working on adjusting Sox diet and Insulin and are now injecting 5-6 Units AM & PM (we started with 2 units and made adjustments in regular intervals). Sox BG levels continue to be high, especially morning and night, we often get high 400's or around 550. We've seen improvement tho with levels after we inject insulin around the 4-6hour mark levels decrease to the 300's and as of just 7 days ago we finally had our first 200 number..yeah.

We've seen more of the lower numbers and attribute it to feeding wet food, still RC renal diet. We've also included several of the Friskies foods that have all around 5% Carbs. I've tried the google spreadsheet and it gave me even more gray hairs than I already have. I tried editing it and deleted it all. Re-created another sheet, and it just won't let me edit it. Sorry peeps, I'm sticking with Excel, I know how to maneuver it better and it offers us the extra space we need to keep observations.

I wanted to see what your experience is with your kitties, if they have kidney issues..Recently Sox has had a hard time going #2. He's got arthritis in the lower back, hip area and we've seen him strain quite a few times until we went and released the motherload. Almost appeared as if he was constipated for a bit. We thought it may be the diet change or levels of BG. He's been going, it just varies in size. and big is worrysome as well as none..Well, today he's having problems doing #1..of course Sunday, vet closed and tomorrow is a holiday. It's hot here, he drinks a lot in general due to the kidney disease and the diabetes and now kitty is going every 5min's to relief himself in tiny trickles..over the last 2h's a bit more each time.

It's definetly cause for worry and I want to take him to the vet as soon as possible, could it be kidney stones?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but anytime a cat can't pee, you have to take them to the ER right away--as it's a possible blockage that can kill quickly.

I'm pretty well versed in the ways of the poo as well, but I'd honestly feel better if you took Sox to the vet right away and we can chat about that stuff later...

I've heard the same thing - anytime they can't pee you need to get them in to the ER asap. Especially with a male cat, because a stone or something can cause a blockage and be fatal in a very short time.

Hi there. As others said, male kitties having problems peeing need to go to the ER. Unfortunately, it can turn very serious very quickly.

I'm posting because I keyed into something different in your thread...high BGs, 5-6 u, kidney issues, arthritis in the spin. Have you had Sox tested for acromegaly (IGF-1 test)? This is the first time I've read one of your threads, but those symptoms just jumped out at me. After the emergency is over, you might go over to the "Acro ISG" and do a little reading.

Also, there is something called megacolon. I know very little about it, but it might be worth reading about.

I hope you have taken Sox to the vet.... we would love an update if you can...
It would be great if you came back to post regarding the other issues...we would love to see you here again...
Sending healing vines to Sox...hope you feel better soon...

I would go to ER asap I am a vet tech and have seen my share of plugged cats nothing to fool around with keep us updated as to how Sox is doing

For some reason I no longer get updates sent to my email when someone posts to a thread. Must have changed some settings by mistake. Y

Yes, we did got to the Vet. Actually just yesterday. Sox was able to pee Sunday night, but took several tries, went pretty much everywhere, but after a while started peeing a nice healthy stream again. We watched him all day Monday and made sure to offer extra water due to the heat and every time he peed just fine. BM is regular again as well.

Urine test came back today, no UTI, no crystals, he's fine.. I blame the heat over in Cali the recent days. It's given him problems in the past. However cooler temps also bring some issues along with his arthritis..Sox BG is also lower again since yesterday we have readings between 243 and 318 and started today with AMPS 303. He's responding well to the 6units of Lantus now and we're finally seeing better numbers.

I never heard of acromegaly, but will do some research and also ask the vet about it tonight. Thanks for the tip!

This is good news...glad he is better and thank you for updating...
