The sun finally broke out today and the cats have been up early, cuddly and lively.

We have some continuing questions from yesterday about instructions to our caregivers over our absence Sunday - Tuesday. I'll re-post my last comment here:

We're meeting with them this morning. They're both very conscientious and careful, although as you said, Marje, mistakes can be made no matter what.

We'll show them the vacuum, plunge-and-release method, and compare it to what she's getting now. The idea will be to make sure she's getting less than her current dose.

Would it help to start the process early, to drain the depot a bit before we leave?

Clare just had a check at the vet. She's up to 6 lbs. 9.5 oz., so a little higher than the last time (which was 6 lbs. 8 oz. about a month ago). The vet said that she feels Clare's ideal weight would be about 7 lbs., so she's getting close. She also said that Clare's coat was very nice and soft and that she's "quite pleased" with Clare's overall health.

We went over the instructions for the vet techs who will be caring for Clare Sunday to Tuesday, and showed Holly (and watched her do) the 0.1 "vacuum" dose that Clare will be on while we're gone. They've both cared for diabetic cats at home before, and know the signs of trouble. We've set it up so they'll visit 8 times over the 2 days.

We'll also bring Clare's dose down beginning the Saturday night before we leave.

This will be a convention for my work that's a couple of hours' drive away, but there will also be evening entertainment and DH and I will get a bit of a break from the intensity before we come back and move Clare's dose up again - maybe in two steps? Hopefully once we get to it, the 0.5 will be the "right one" for her and we'll be back on track again toward her healing with some long green surfs.

That all sounds great!!!! Glad she is gaining weight and you can get away for some fun with Don....even if there is a bit of work involved.

Clare's really doing well. We know there's still some work to do, though!

When you have the chance, we'd appreciate some advice about how to get her from the 0.1 interim dose up to 0.5 after we get back home on Tuesday.
