What you're seeing is what we call a "bounce." Most cats when they are diagnosed with diabetes have been in high BG numbers for a while. As a result, their bodies get used to being in higher numbers. When they start spending time in normal numbers, their liver "panics" and dumps a stored form of glucose (glucagon) and counterregulatory hormones. These act to raise BG. It can take up to 72 hours for the bounce to clear.

Is there any way you can get at least one test during the PM cycle? Many cats experience lower numbers at night so getting at least one test is important for safety reasons. In addition, with no PM tests, you're missing half of your data.

I am not sure how many cycles a bounce can last. This makes 5 since he went down to the 40s the other night. He saw yellow yesterday, (and maybe a blue right in between them). I think I'd stick with this dose tonight, see if the numbers come down in the morning. Otherwise, I think the advice is to go back to the last "good dose" which would be 1.5u.

Let's see what others think.

Hey, Shannan -

When in doubt, I usually side with Carl. ;-) But, seriously, as I understand it - you don't have to hold a reduction like you do an increase. You can go back to the last 'good dose' whenever you want to.

+3 will tell you if he's coming down early and give you a heads-up on an active cycle. +6 is always good to know.

Thank you. JL is sleeping on his new old favorite post. He has not lost any weight and grooms himself regularly. Not much movement with the toys lately. He seems to like sleep more.

Definitely not dropping early tonight +3 512. Wish I knew what is going on with him.
