Bronx's dad (GA)

Member Since 2016
Things are ok in Bronx's world, wish he would poop more often and stop crying for food every 2 hours but he seems happy. But, like clockwork, he yowls every morning at 6a. A real loud yowl, not sure what he is trying to tell me, does it while he is just laying down in another room and stops after 3 or 4 times. The yowl is totally different that the cries for food, not sure what's going on?

Glad to see an update on Bronx. Hope you figure out what Bronx is trying to tell you. I think Gizmo's loud random cries in the middle of the night are because he is bored. He does it almost every night as soon as I turn off the lights. If I go to check on him, I always find him in the hallway with his blue string (his favorite). If only I could talk him into sleeping like the rest of the household. :joyful:

Wow - what a start to the day with that number!

I noticed you use R - I just started incorporating it. Any advice or tips?

Marley does this...usually means she wants to play. Does he have his toys near him when he does that?

Sometimes the first dose of R shows no effect, and then I would shoot R again later in the cycle. This has proven to be a mistake many times since that would cause Bronx to drop into scary light greens during the Lev nadir on the following cycle. Also, I give half the amount of R that I used to since any big BG drop from R just resulted in a bigger bounce.

Thanks for the link, here is what they say:

"Potential causes of increased vocalisation in elderly cats Perhaps the most common causes of increased vocalisation in elderly cats are CDS, hyperthyroidism (with or without systemic hypertension), systemic hypertension (typically secondary to chronic kidney disease (CKD), hyperthyroidism or, possibly, hyperaldosteronism or diabetes mellitus (DM), deafness, osteoarthritis (OA, or other causes of chronic pain), and brain tumours (most commonly meningioma) (Figure 3). Since many of these conditions are discussed elsewhere in this journal, this paper will concentrate on the recognition and treatment of CDS, with only brief comments on the other conditions."

Ya know Gizmo will do this if he thinks he has lost me - lol. I have to tell him I am going to bed or else he will sit somewhere down stairs and yowl until I call him or come back down stairs and get him. :banghead: As long as he follows me upstairs (after I wait for him to finish his food of course) he won't/doesn't do it. I wonder if Bronx is waking up and doesn't know where you are and is calling for you.

Nice PMPS. Good thing you are home today.

I see that Bronx is almost due for his next post SRT bloodwork. I did every three months for the first year to check thyroid values. I just took a quick peak at those labs, and noticed his urine protein was positive. Has his vet ever mentioned getting a urine protein/creatinine ratio done? Proteinuria is another one of those things acrocats can get. If you did the UPC ratio done and it's high, you also need to get a blood pressure done to help determine the cause of proteinuria. Both thyroid and BP are mentioned as possible causes of howling above. Neko went on benazapril for her proteinuria. Addressing proteinuria slows kidney degradation.

Hi Wendy, we did get the UPC ratio done and it was .3 and the vet said it was below the .5 so all is ok? What else should I test for if the UPC was normal? Also, do you know the difference between Spec fPL & PrecisionPSL? I guess this new vet has bloodwork done differently than my last vet. The only other thing my vet recommended was an ultrasound but she said she really didn't think it was 100% necessary because she doubted Bronx has pancreatitis.

Good on the UPC ratio. Sorry I missed that. If it's within range, I wouldn't worry. A blood pressure sometime if you don't have it already is good to hav. Maybe Redbank has it on file? I only ever had the Spec fPL done. Is Bronx maintaining his weight?

Redbank told me between 120-140 1 month before the SRT when he was in for the CT scan in April. He is maintaining his weight since he is always eating. Crying for food now as I write this.
