A very long night with Harley. Again, he decided to drop low. Don't know why he does this at night...he must know I like to sleep and he does not want me to. He had a very nice run of numbers all day long. Got his dose decrease to 2.5u. Hopefully this bounce will be short.

Don't know if I need more ~O) or some Z's.

Have a good day.

Morning! ~O) ~O) ~O)

He sure did keep you busy last night! Hope he clears the bounce fast.

Harley is now at 2.5u with no R - a year ago he was at 7u.

Grab some zzzz while you can!

Re: 9/3Harley AMPS 339

Morning Pattie! Looks like Harley and Jetta had a date frolicking in the the green fields last night! I'll talk to Jetta if you talk to Harley- no more late night dates kitties!!!!

Re: 9/3Harley AMPS 339

I agree with Sandy, get some sleep while you can.
Congratulations on another dosecrease :-D   Gooooooo Harley!

Re: 9/3Harley AMPS 339

I think you need to take a nap if possible, Pattie. That's a low pink, though, so hopefully Harley will surf in the yellows today for you, or possibly get a bit lower...? I hope that you have a great day!

Re: 9/3Harley AMPS 339, 403/+2.75

The expected hard bounce is here. Harley is hung over from last night and sleeping like a log. Barley raised his head when I tested. Thought there could be a problem until the auto feeder went on. That woke him up. After his snack, he went back to bed.

Yes, the expected karo/HC hangover . . it certainly was a big ol ' HC fest last cycle. . .

It cracks me up when BK is sleeping and the feeder goes off - he jumps to attention and can't move fast enough to get to it!

sometimes that kind of bigger perspective is just what we need when we spend day-to-day in the trenches. good reminder to all of us, sandy!

Thank you Sandy for giving me a bit of perspective as to where Harley was and is now. Got me to thinking about this whole thing. Dug through records and here is even more perspective. He was diagnosed late April 2009.

6/9/09:
Admitted to ER with DKA, they referred Harley to U of MN because they could do no more for him. My choices: put him down or transfer to U.

6/10/09:
Admit to U. Harley had critically low phosphorous and potassium and elevated liver enzymes. In ICU 7 days, sent home on 3u Lantus BID and nasoesophageal tube.

7/2/09
Admit to U - DKA again. G-Tube placed and Harley sent home on 12u NPH.

He was in and out of ICU a couple more times and finally went home on 8u Lantus. 2010 came back to FDMB and began ss

My baby has come a long way!

Re: 9/3Harley AMPS 339, 403/+2.75 Thinking of the past

That he has -- and all because of his spirit and his dedicated bean who never lost her faith in her kitty.

Wow what a story. Thank you for sharing how far he's come. Give Harley a belly rub from me.

A very red day for Harley, but he is down some. Frustrated with the Relion syringe. Always a big bubble at the top that is hard to get rid of. I ended up wasting a lot of insulin before I got a true 2.5u for him. Wish there was something else I could use. I did post on health about this and feedback was across the board. Don't know which one to try but I can't keep throwing away up to 6u each time I have to shoot.

I'm glad you didn't follow that first vet's advice to put him down! Two years later Harley is going strong, thanks to his mom's persistence.

Interesting about the bubbles. I haven't had any trouble with bubbles in the ReliOn syringes lately. I know I used to back when I used them with Lucy but I thought they had improved them since then. In this last little baggie, though, I've had to toss a few because the plunger wasn't straight and I couldn't measure accurately. I picked up a new box tonight and I hope they're ok.

I know that red is hard on the eyes. . .

I've been looking at Harleys ss last 9 days. It seems the 30's sent him to Black, the 40's sent him to Red and the 70's sent him to pink. His last red bounce was over in 1 cycle. Hoping this one will be too. This Red bounce is not quite as high as the last one.

He's had 4 decreases in that period of time.

Once the bounce clears, if this dose shows some action, I wonder if you didn't let him get lower than 70, if the bounce would be less.. .

This may be a good point on the journey to focus on liver training. A good strategy with Harley may be to try to not let him get below 70 for a few consecutive cycles cycles, see if his liver stops panicking at 70s.
If you see he's no longer going Pink from the 70s, then let him dip into the 60s (no lower) and see what happens in terms of a bounce.. It would be worth a try to see if his liver will calm down some. That sure would be nice.
