Morning Lantus Landers! I have had my ~O) ~O) ~O) ~O) and am waking up. Smokey is a little high this morning but he did try to hack up a hair ball very early this morning- may have contributed I guess.

We had lots of morning snuggles and scritches... Here are some pics!

I had a question about Monoject syringes... I'm going to place an order from ADW and I just want to confirm which ones people use (that have .5U markings)
These are the ones I think that people use... can you confirm? http://www.americandiabeteswholesale.com/product/monoject-syringe-31g-310cc-100bx-case-of-3_3360.htm

My thoughts and prayers to all of the kitties and beans who are struggling and suffering. Prayers for healing and peace...

yes, i think those are the ones i use for 1/2 unit or 1/4 unit dosing. i've actually been buying the terumo syringes and using them most of the time - they glide like you wouldn't believe and i absolutely love them. but no 1/2 unit markings, so you have to ballpark it or switch to monojects. the last box of monojects i got were really hard to work the plunger - just kinda sticky.

that's a great deal on the price - i hadn't seen the buy 3 packages pricing before. awesome.

what a sweet little face on smokey! just smooshable! :-D

eta - do you go through mrrebates.com to order from ADW? you get an 8% rebate . . . i have more than $35 in rebates from mrrebates just from punkin's ADW orders. it's worth it to make an account there.

Morning Smokes! You're such a beautiful boy - reminds me of one of my past babies - Leo. He was a rescue, I had him for 4 years then moved to a new town. He got out the door 2 days into the new place, I hunted him for days. I FINALLY found him - he'd been 'adopted' by an elderly lady that had no family, her cat had just crossed. He already seemed to love her to pieces and she REALLY needed him. I left him with her...got updates for 2 years, they were both so in love with each other. It was worth my missing him.

Can't answer question, I still use WallyWorld's...

Have a wonderful day!

Thanks for the confirmation Julie- I do go through Mr. Rebates (though the rebate is only 4% right now- but that's 4% I would not have otherwise had!).

Hi Gwen:

Handsome boy!!!! Gracie loves his photos and so do I!!

Yes...those are the MJs we use, too. I've used several kinds of syringes and these are my favorite as they are most consistent....not perfect....but I really like them.

I also love Terumo's products and use them for squids but I gotta have the 1/2u markings for Gracie as she is such a low doser. If I were in Julie's shoes, I'd be doing the same thing and going with those awesome Terumos.

Glad to see he is coming down!

Hi Gwen,
Those are the Monojects we use too. I like them a lot because they have nice, flat plungers and you can line them up easily with the marks on the barrel of the syringe. Be sure to get the 0.3cc size. I work the plunger back and forth 3 times, then hold it all the way in, forcefully, while I insert it into the insulin pen. This gets out any air that might be hiding in the syringe. Let up on the plunger and slowly draw out a little more than your dose. Then twist the end of the plunger until you arrive at your dose. The 31 gauge Monojects are the best syringes I have found. I get very few air bubbles and the syringes are accurate.

Great pics of Smokey!

A cat can't tell the very minute difference between a 30 gauge needle or a 31 gauge needle. Needle length and gauge doesn't matter, though some people say that a longer needle helps with long haired cats.

These are the Monoject insulin syringes you want that are 31 gauge with half unit markings: http://www.hocks.com/diabetic-suppl...16-inch-needle-1-2-unit-markings-100-box.html

ADW only has the whole unit 3/10cc insulin syringes. There is nothing in the product description that says half unit markings and ADW is good at putting details like that in their product description. You can call them to double check if you want to be sure

The only other Monoject insulin syringes at ADW with half unit markings are 29 gauge 1/2 inch needles: http://www.americandiabeteswholesale.com/product/monoject-ultra-comfort-insulin-syringes_1289_1.htm

Your first link to the 31g syringes DO have 1/2 unit markings. You have to read the full description and that's where it tells you it has 1/2 unit markings. I made the mistake of ordering the 30g syringes because it had "1/2 unit markings" written on the picture of the syringes. Champ COULD feel the difference between the 30g and the 31g. He never ever flinches with 31g and his skin quivers when I used the 30g. The first link you put up are the ones you want to order!!

ETA: I just looked and, for some reason, there is no longer a reference to there being 1/2 unit markings in the description on ADW, BUT IT USED TO!! The link you put up of the ADW 31g syringes are the same syringes in the Hocks link Squeem put up so you're good to go.

I don't see where it says 1/2 unit or half unit markings in the product description at http://www.americandiabeteswholesale.com/product/monoject-syringe-31g-310cc-100bx-case-of-3_3360.htm confused_cat

Squeem - you're so correct!!! I just edited my post. But her link through ADW for the 31g and your link through Hocks is the same syringe.

I did not notice that ohmygod_smile

The ADW link does not say whether or not the 31 gauge 3/10 cc insulin syringes have 5/16 inch needles or not. Most likely they are since insulin syringes with 1/2 inch needles are not available in 31 gauge. 31 gauge 1/2 inch needles would bend way too easily as you are sticking it into the skin.

I would still call ADW and double check on the Monoject 31 guage 3/10 cc insulin syringes for half unit markings.

So it looks like the ones I linked and the ones at Hocks are the same but just to be sure, I'm going to call ADW... this is turning out to be more complicated than I was anticipating!!! The things I do for Smokers!!!

OK I called ADW. They actually went, got a box of syringes off of the shelf and looked at them. They DO indeed have half unit markings. The ADW SKU is SY8881609331 or SY8881609331PK3 (for the three pack). They are going to amend the webpage to confirm that they do have half unit markings! So now we know! Thanks everyone for your help- I really appreciate all of the time and thought you contributed!!!

Glad that you called ADW and they are going to amend the webpage. I went through all that before and finally found that the ADW sku# matched the number on the box. Love the 3 pack!

I love gray kitties! I love how their noses are the same color as their fur. Are his eyes gray too? What a handsome guy!

I just fished out all the info. for you from my last order, but see that you have resolved the issue. SY8881609331 does indeed have 1/2-unit markings. I have been ordering them from ADW for quite some time. The price is right (they are more expensive at Hocks).

Whew! glad that is cleared up!!

Anne- his eyes are brilliant green. He really is a pretty guy- Thanks! Now, if only he wasn't as commanding!!

Hope the pepcid works for Maggie. Do you use pill pockets or the gullet method? I've never had to pill Smokey but I'm curious as to how others go about it.

Hi, Thanks for stopping by last evening. Yes, the pepcid helped. I cut the 10mg pill in 1/4's with a pill cutter, and buried it in a little Beechnut chicken baby food. She started moving the pill around on the spoon and then left it on the spoon,. I managed to get the Pepcid pill in the side of her mouth, and she swallowed. Some here really like the pill pockets, which I've not tried, but I bet would be a good option.
