Max had a very green day yesterday but then jumped back up from +8.5-pmps to 250 and then 310 before coming back down to blue for a guess the rest of the night. At +5 he was 164.

Thanks for stopping by last night Shelly and Ruth. I did go to sleep by 12 but I now wake up before 5. Max has me trained. :roll:

So my current vial expires today but we have gone green with it just yesterday. In between I think he is bouncing. Do I continue to use the vial, try the pen that I started again, or a new pen? Max just isn't cooperating these days and as usual I am frustrated.

Since you got green off the vial yesterday, I think I would probably be inclined to continue with it.

How long ago did you start the pen? The clock started ticking on that one, too - once you pierce it with a needle, the counter begins.

Hopefully Max will come back down from that little old food spike and surf beautifully for you. Prayers for your Mom, too!!

Thanks, Amy. When I started the pen it didn't give me very good results so I went back to the vial. it was when I thought the vial was toast last week or the week before. I have to look on my ss. He might have been bouncing or else it was a bad pen. I'll keep with the vial a bit longer. I still have two unopened pens sent to me at the same time as the first one. How long does a pen last? I've only used two vials so far. I also get bigger bubbles with the pen so that might be part of the puzzle.

Just checked and the pen was used 9/18.

I hope Max comes back down soon. Since I've started using the pens, I've been able to use all of the insulin in each one.

Carla, you don't get bubbles? They were so much worse with the pen. With the vial I usually get one that is snout the same size each time. I've given up trying to get rid of then. I'm challenged when it comes to that and waste insulin.

I get bubbles every now and then, but I used to get worse bubbles with the vial.

I waste a good amount of insulin with the pens trying to get the bubbles out. I usually draw at least an extra 1.5u, flick the bubbles to the top, pull more air in (like Laura said a few days ago), push all the air out, tap the syringe to make sure I am bubble free, then let drops out till I get to the right dose. Having the extra insulin to let out gives me more of an opportunity to get rid of bubbles. I don't like to waste it, but it's the only way that I can seem to get bubble free doses, so it's worth it! How old is the vial? I know that with the pens, they technically expire 28 days after opening, but that doesn't mean much. Even our vet said they can last for months refrigerated.

Thanks Julie. I will stick with the vial then. How's your class this year? What grade do you teach? I taught mostly 3rd through 5th but 4rd my last several years.

Hi Deanna. My first vial lasted almost 6intgs. The issue with this one is the expiration date of 9/14. I Opened it four months ago.
