Hi LL!
Sorry it's been so long since you've heard from us. Vacation, then a move and starting my job (not to mention not getting internet set up until recently) have kept me away from posting and stoping by condos.
James had a great week with DGma and DA at the end of June. While he was there, he was able to have surgery for his hernia. While in surgery, the vet discovered significant muscle injuries which she assumes were caused by James' stint in the wild 2 years ago. In order to repair the hernia, James basically had to have a tummy tuck to stitch up all his damaged muscle! He pulled through great and the tummy tuck had the side effect of making him look very fit and trim.
The vet encouraged us to take it easy on him for the next few weeks, so he got an extended vacation at DGma's till mid-July.
Meanwhile, I gave DGma and DA a pretty high threshold for a no-shoot number and figured I'd do damage control after vacation. James, naturally, had his own plans. His numbers were low enough the morning I left that he didn't get a shot. Same went for the first few days. Testing proved pretty stressful without me there, so after a couple of days of green numbers and no shots, no one took BG numbers and James didn't get any insulin. Again, damage control was on my mind in mid-July when I went to pick him up. Imagine my shock when after a long and stressful 5 hour car ride from DGma's to my new apartment, James only tested a 113!!! The next few days gave me all low blue and then solidly green! I'm so glad to be able to say
James is settling into life as a city cat, but does not appreciate my apartment's proximity to a busy dog park! He has a great appetite, better energy, and a newfound love for sleeping in empty cardboard boxes leftover from my move. (That's where he's taking his post-dinner nap now.)
I'm so grateful for all the guidance and support I've received from everyone here. There is NO DOUBT that James would not be where he is today without all of you.
Can't wait to catch up with each of you and meet the folks who've joined the boards since I've been away!

James is decidedly OTJ!
I'm still checking him occasionally, but it's been all good news for the last 6 weeks. I even see the numbers drop right after I've fed him, which I take as a good sign of a more-healthy pancreas.James is settling into life as a city cat, but does not appreciate my apartment's proximity to a busy dog park! He has a great appetite, better energy, and a newfound love for sleeping in empty cardboard boxes leftover from my move.
