So I decided to experiment w/play time and glucose numbers.

+4 she was at 101 ....she typically nadirs at +3

15 minutes of playing with the string...more watching(getting excited at seeing a moving object) than running....at little batting around of the string toy too.....not that much activity....more stimulation than anything else.....

Glucose after play was 65.....gave her a little food .... just the rest of her breakfast....I will need to see what happens over the weekend when I try this in the afternoon for maybe 10 minutes or so.

+5 = 72

Yes, I heard that exercise can decrease BG. I was told once, along time ago, not to take J.D. outside for a walk when I wanted to, because he was very low green (like below 40).

It would be interesting to see if the numbers come back up when playing stops. But you'd have to spend all day watching, because Curry might enjoy playing when she's alone, too!!

Carry on!

I would expect Curry's numbers to rise after platytime...I'm really interested in finding out if it can shave off a few of the numbers from her PMPS or just slow down the rising numbers in the afternoon over time.

Of course one day of experimenting won't really tell me anything. But perhaps over a period of a week, I might be able to see a trend of some sort. Who knows. Its worth looking into w/Curry since she does like to play when encouraged to do so and it seems to impact her numbers to some degree. However, no playing as her numbers are dropping after her insulin shot.

Stay tuned to Playtime Fun!!!

Good job ....interesting to watch. I have heard that exercise lowers the BGs...as with human diabetics...
diet and exercise works to lower the numbers. Hope you have a good day today Tena!
Nice AMPS in the blue for Curry! And those greens are just wonderful!

Playing definately makes numbers drop. Doctors recommend that diabetics get exercise regularly to help metabolize sugar (energy) and lower BG! I had several hypo incidence with Spooky following a vigourous play session and the sugar burning effects can last quite some time. Several times he dropped a few 100 points after galloping through the house for half an hour :-D

According to the American Diabetes Association, diet and exercise are the cornerstones of maintaining good blood glucose control. However you may have noticed, that when you exercise sometimes your blood glucose level drops. It is important that you monitor your blood glucose levels after exercise, especially rigorous activity, because exercise can cause your blood glucose levels to drop in the hours following the activity.
How Exercise Affects Blood Glucose Levels

According to the American Diabetes Association the body can metabolize glucose for up to 24 hours after exercising. The liver is the place in the body that stores glucose for later use. When you exercise for long periods of time, or participate in very intense activities, the body will use the glucose that is stored in the liver for energy. Subsequently, when the exercise is over, the body seeks to replenish the glucose from the liver that was used. If you haven’t eaten, the body will pull the glucose needed him the bloodstream. If this happens, you may experience symptoms of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).
