Mickey is home after a long day at the vet. 3 units was given to him with wacky numbers all the way until tonight with a pmps of 275

Took a urine culture to have results on UTI tomorrow.

On the way home he let go an enormous pee inside the carrier! I was wondering why he was going crazy in the crate. All of the suddden I have pee flung all over the car and my face @-) He didn't get my car too badly. But he was soaked. We went to the bathroom immediately and he got a bath. That was interesting. Sruffed him and went to it. Didnt loose any body parts.

The vet used an animal glucose meter and my meter and compaired the numbers. Some of hers were higher by 10-40 points as were mine. She called the company and said they said meters are different because of the oxygen levels in the blood or something. I did not order one.

Hope everyone had a great day! Oh and he is down to 26 lbs and 11 oz from 30.3 in the beginning

LOL, lucky you didn't lose your life [let alone any body parts] trying to wash a 27 lb cat!

Yes the human meters run a little different than the pet ones. What is important is the relative change in numbers not exactly what they are. The "danger" numbers are based on correcting for the known difference. Human meters also run a little low at the lower numbers to encourage people to do something about their low numbers before it becomes a big issue. Some of the meters run more high than others too at the higher numbers.

Janet has done some excellent statistical analysis of the various meters. But, as I understand, the reason folks here say get the meter with the cheapest strips is that again it is the relative change not the exact reading that is important.

Good to hear that Mickey is on the road to getting into fighting shape.

Sounds like quite a day!!! Bet he sleeps well tonight!!! :-D That sounds about right for the meters. The #s people are aiming for here are generally on track with using human meters, so it's all good. It's good to know, so you don't get scared if you see a 50 or something nadir. Keep us posted on the testing results!

HOLY CRAP! You gave him a bath and lived to tell the tale!!!! You are one brave woman.

So now that every one has survived the day, what were his curve #'s?

the numbers were (not to quote) 413amps +2 319-+4 279 I wrote them down but the numbers are at home. Working till 6am will put on SS tomorrow.

I really should have video taped the bath. I ended up scruffing him with one hand and scrubbing with the other. The worst part was when I went to resoap the cloth, rinse and go in for more.
