A couple of questions for the group. I asked in yesterday's convo, but it was late so I am asking again today.
Question 1:
If a cat's blood sugar goes down too low are they able to "sense" that and go eat on their own if food was available to bring it up? Sort of like how diabetic people feel when they are low and needing to eat. Now I realize cats can only do so much for themselves, but I was just wondering if they had a natural sense to eat when low? Anyone know? I was just curious.
Question 2:
What's the minimum AMPS or PMPS number I should watch out for to NOT give him his full dose? Like if he is below such and such number then don't give him his full dose? Or does it all just depend on his nadir? I'm trying to learn more so I don't have to run here for advice every time I see a lower AMPS or PMPS number then before.
apollo is doing so well, john... and so are you!
i read through yesterday's thread. it's wonderful that you're already seeing an improvement in his behavior.
hope he has another awesome cycle today!
Question 1:
Like with most things, every cat is different (ECID). Some cats will search out food if their BG is running low. Others, could easily sleep through it. The only way to know what Apollo will do is to have food out at a time when his numbers are in the greens and see what he does. If Gabby isn't sleeping and I'm home, she either sits and stares at me or follows me into the kitchen.
Question 2:
Until you have more data, we generally suggest that you post and ask for help if you have a number under 150 at shot time. There are guidelines for shooting and handling low numbers in the sticky by the same name. Eventually, the goal is for you to be able to shoot numbers that are in the 50s and above.
I'm going to let the more experienced people answer your questions (btw... feel free to repeat your questions even if they sound redundant to you... Sometimes, those are the best questions for you to learn from... Believe me, I've asked many a question that were repeating questions  )
Apollo's looking much better! You will notice after some time that he'll start feeling better for it, if he hasn't started already. Have a great day!
Apollo, you are doing great and so is your bean! John, please ask the questions until you get a satisfactory response. I also appreciate reading the responses because I learn things for Zener. Have a great day!
Liz
Look at you Apollo! We are still rooting you will be the one to hit and run out of here OTJ in record time... *crossing fingers* Great job...keep it up!
that is a great start to the day. often the amps is the last number to come down, for whatever reason. cats seem to often go lower at night than during the day, and that amps is often the highest number of the day as well.
i think you'll start to see apollo's curve flattening out now.
Hi guys ... yay on the new lowest amps for apollo, that is wonderful! I know with mocha if the house was in full motion she made it be known that she wanted some fuds by vocalizing it to us .. HOWEVER .. there were a few times we got up in the night when the house was quiet and still and caught her down in the 30's (and once or twice in the 20s!) and she was sound asleep .. Hope you guys have a great day!
Sorry I haven't been to your condo yet....we've had a very sick kitty. But I wanted to welcome you and Apollo to LL. Congrats on the AMPS today and you are asking great questions. Just keep 'em coming!
Get this. I just saw my cat playing with a cat toy on his own. He hasn't done that in YEARS. He is also coming up and going down the stairs more often. This is COOL!

:thumbup :thumbup Way to go Apollo! And John \M/ You are seeing what we all look for , our cats acting normal and healthy., This is the best reward for all our work.
Awesome news about Apollo starting to feel better. Pretty soon you'll be an old pro at this and shooting greens!!
I know Leo will seek me out when he's low, he tends to get very vocal when he's low. I suppose ECID, you'll figure out what Apollo's behavior soon enough.
i would think you're ok going to bed, john. if i were you, i would. i don't see anything that would say he's likely to go too low tonight. as always, it's up to you.
