Sorry I didn't get a chance to do a thread yesterday.

I'm impressed how much easier the Levemir is to draw into the syringe...I'm wasting a LOT less insulin now.

I'm tickled that Pumbaa is as flat as he is. He had bounced at his 4th cycle on Lantus back in April. Keeping my fingers crossed that this trend will continue, for the most part.

I'll be raising Pumbaa's dose to .75U tonight.

Negative ketones yesterday. I'll try to test him again today.

Re: 9/27 Pumbaa AMPS/249 6th cycle on Lev

I really think that slow and steady "wins" this race (to regulation). I like how he is flat and slowly lowering.

I think some cats are more prone to bouncing due to factors we may or may not know about or be able to control, but a sure fire way to induce them is too much insulin and/or dose raised too fast. I am keeping all my (non-typing) fingers crossed that you can raise him gently enough and that lev is gentle enough to get him to decent numbers with no bounces!

Re: 9/27 Pumbaa AMPS/249 6th cycle on Lev

Pumbaa is looking so much better on Lev! :-D The ease to draw and the nice flat cycles that I got with Musette is why I jumped at the chance to switch Autumn over when my vet asked if I would consider taking her off Lantus and putting her either on Lev or PZI. Now maybe you can catch up on some sleep if he isn't giving you dives and bounces..just keep it slow and steady on the raises and decreases...

Oh and start learning to get 5 drops out of .5u of insulin...lol That was the other thing that I found with lev and Musette..a DROP one way or the other matters especially when you get down to under 1u bid. Sometimes a half of a drop matters, I completely freaked my vet out with Musette when I showed him how I measured .3u for her. That was something else that seems easier with Lev than Lantus the drops seem easier to get consistantly the same.

Mel, I love that your vet wanted you to switch to Levemir, when mine refused to prescribe it. *LOL*

One of these days, when I catch up on work and things I've let slide inside and outside of the house due to work deadlines, I will work on getting 5 drops out of .50U...that would make it so much easier to figure the .25 doses (kinda sorta).
