Ate another can of food over night. Klinger peed outside of the litter box last night. I think I read somewhere that it could be a sign of to much insulin, so I reduced it to 3.4 u's.
AMPS 513
PMPS 353

Gave 3.4 u's.

hon, i don't think it's too much insulin. not with those #'s. it could be a urinary track infection due to sugary urine. do you have glucose/keto stix?
i would not reduce but i also would ask your mentor nancy

I wondered what made you reduce from the scale this morning.

Unfortunately, in our experience that is due to a urinary tract infection like Lori said,
and cats with high blood glucose have glucose spill into their urine, which gives bacteria in the urinary tract a food (sugar) to multiply in the bladder = UTI's.

Did you buy glucose & ketone strips (ketodiastyx) If so, you will probably see the glucose maxed out. Any bg readings over about 200 will result in glucose spilling into the urine (which isn't good for the kidneys either)

We need to get back to at least yellow most of the cycle, so unless you think he's really not eating or something, lets get those numbers down. I do think 3.4 will be good from 353, but this morning I would have gone with more.

Chances are good he will need AB's to clear the infection if thats what he has, but you could see if it happens again.
Have you heard of Pet-zyme or one of those enzyme urine cleaners?

please grab a test right before bed tonight.
I'm liking the 353 ps.
3.4u should take him down into high blue tonight.

not bad. either get glucose strips or a trip to vet. glucose strips cheaper.

Isn't the only way to get the up or down on a kitty UTI a trip to the vet for urine culture? And if positive, ideally determine the organism to make sure one is treating with the right AB? Or at least if one wants ABs then they will probably have to go to the vet.

i would give that a Yes gator...your right, if it's an infection it's a vet visit.
just one out of the box pee is not reason to worry quite yet.
look for continued behavior.

hmmmm, the gator might have a valid point here.. has kitty been checked for infection of any kind? i seem to remember this kitty did have a work up of some type.

263 at essentially +3 looks on track for low yellow, high blue- perfect for now. ( just DONT BOUNCE KLINGER! )
I don't think he will, so tomorrow lets hope for another high pink preshot. If it is- shoot like you did tonight (3.4?) and hopefully it will keep moving down gently.

Since vet visits and culture and sensitivity are pricey, let's wait and see. and get those numbers down, but if he pees outside the box again for no apparent reason, make an appt. I think he was mad it was Monday and he misses the beans...

One day Cody (the darling) was pi**ed that he got locked in the master bedroom when we went out, and peed right in the middle of my king sized bed. soaked through everything.... what we do..... he was just "acting out" in a way he can....

Gator makes a point about the urine culture. Some vets will poke a needle into the bladder, and send it off for a culture, so they know which AB works. The report takes awhile so most vets start some AB and then switch if the results show a different one worked better. Early on I wondered if the craziness could be some illness, and mentioned that. Let's keep an eye on this possibility for sure. But he is responding, and it is actually pretty predictable. It just not pretty - yet.

For now, I would try to add some water to his food, and encourage drinking. I have no experience with crystals, but some male cats get urine crystals which obstruct or irritate- seems unlikely on a canned only diet, but...?

He's doing OK- hang in there - you are doing fine- there is so much to learn but you are smart, and he's getting there!

9-28 He didn't bounce! hurray! well looks like we got lucky 374 AMPS, and you shot 3.4u :-D

I hope tonight is in the same ballpark. We are all anxious to see progress, but I'm hoping that he keeps SLOWLY reducing the ps numbers, maybe not every cycle but over a couple days. Slow and steady - hold the course  as you saw, if we rush too much we lose a few days and send him into bad numbers. While bouncing isn't the end of the world because it only lasts a few days, I prefer to push the nadir down more gradually to avoid bouncing. YOU ARE DOING GREAT!

Any "accidents" ?

there is a method where they send you home with granuals to put in you LB instead of litter and when cat pee's you can pour it into a capped cup they provide and bring it in within 5 hours to have it sampled. cheaper and easier for everyone.

Yea but from what I understand it is less 'desirable' than a clean catch [lol never been able to do that with a cat] or grabbing urine via needle cysto. 'Desirable' = sterile from other sources of contamination. So if one did the crystals then one might want to thoroughly clean/scrub their littler box then sanitize their litter box with bleach or other prior to putting in the crystals. Even that is probably less ideal then the needle.

I put in fresh litter, put them in the box, (cats cant resist clean litter lol) and am standing ready with a clean container. (at the clinic with the dogs we used a soup ladle to stick under them when they squatted)

This is ok for seeing protein or white blood cells, or blood; but to do a culture/sensitivity, pretty sure you need a needle aspiration of the bladder.

i'm lucky as tom would allow me to do that...he allows me to do ANYTHING, but some cats will not tolerate you putting your hand in their junk while they are using it.
