Seems fairly happy - both boys arent eating as crazily which is good to see- I want to keep enticing Bailey to eat though, to put weight on him. Also he is handling the enzymes well now so we might even be able to increase them!

happy friday everyone!

That was a close call... I almost injected bailey with Tiggys dose. I even inserted the needle and then noticed the dose before I pushed the plunger. Thank goodness I spotted it. Bailey gets 0.1 units. Tiggy gets 5.5. It would have been immediate vet trip and sugar drip... I am still shaking...

Yikes!!!! :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

I think that would be my greatest fear in having two diabetic cats. Maybe you should always do Tiggy first? Then no harm no foul if he get's Bailey's dose.

Thank God you noticed. Someone was looking out for you. I don't know how you do it with two. Some days I am so emotional with one.

That's a good idea. Tiggy is the alpha cat anyway, plus I think I will prepare one syringe at a time instead of both. Then I hope I won't mess up...

Catherine, both my cats have been diabetic for over a year although I adopted bailey and he was already diabetic , I have come to terms with neither achieving remission, I just want them happy and healthy.. Which they are. The rest is routine now for the most part.. Which is probably why I nearly shot bailey the wrong amount..

how about you take one set of syringes and color them with a sharpie or mark with one cat's name - this way, it will be a visual for you so you can be sure not to do it again.

of course you probably won't ever make that mistake again anyway.

Yowsa, that is a close call. I'm glad it turned out ok. Maybe have two trays with their names and put the loaded syringe in the tray?

groan....oh, that made my stomach hurt!

I am amazed you noticed that just in time!! Great eyes...and super reflexes for sure!!

That says so much about you Wendy...there is a lot in that one sentence to give me pause and tear up.....such a lovely person with such a good heart!

WHEW Wendy! That's an AWFUL feeling for a LONG LONG time afterwards too. That was my biggest fear when considering adopting Dakota...that I would mix up doses. They too are on HUGE different doses. I do draw doses at the same time but have settled on a method that works for me - I put the filled recapped syringe in each of their test cases AND I always shoot KT, Mr. low dose, first. BIG HUGE LOOOOOONG HUG! I KNOW you're STILL shaky...

And another BIG HUG,

I'm always concerned that there will be a morning when Gizmo sticks his face in Gabby's food and I'll turn around and shoot the wrong cat. Thankfully, Gizmo's big, fluffy tail helps to keep me oriented before coffee!

Ai yi yi!! You had me shaking too. So glad you caught this just in time. Whew!!
But many hugs to you for adopting a diabetic kitty along with your own diabetic baby. (((Wendy)))

P.S. Tara, I loved that photo, hahahaha!!!

How scary. I'm so glad you caught it before you shot. It might be a good idea to always shoot one first, no matter what. In the past I had 2 cats that were both taking a different liquid medicine. They had to have their meds at the same time. I always gave TT her dose first, but I was tired one day and Squeaky came over while I was getting the meds ready. I decided I'd give her her dose first. Right after I squeezed the plunger, I realized I gave her TT's hyper-thyroid medicine. It scared me to death. I was lucky it wasn't worse. I called the vet and they told me to give Squeaky a teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide and it would make her throw up and she'd be okay.

If you do decide to shoot one first, stick with it no matter what.

You're such a great mom bean to take care of two fd kitties.
