Hmmm. This is Tootoo's 3rd OTJ trial day. I don't get the higher number in the a.m. After small feeding and 1 hour, number comes down. I could try the 3:00 a.m. feeding again, but I don't really want to unless it's necessary. That seemed to bring his a.m. number down before. I don't understand why after a whole night with no food his number is higher than after he's been fed. Can anyone share any light on this? Is it because the pancreas kicks in with food? I'm home tomorrow and can do the 3 hour later check if he's higher again in the morning, if that would tell me anything. :?:

For a cat whose pancreas is working, food stimulates the pancreas to produce it's own insulin. So, when you feed, a few hours later the endogenous insulin works to lower BG. This was why we suggested giving Tootoo a small meal late in the PM cycle since it could lower your AMPS. It's also why we suggest multiple, small, LC meals for OTJ kitties.

Thanks Sienne. That makes sense. It sounds like I can actually help the pancreas along with small frequent meals. I'll do my best.:-)
