No one offers suggestions anymore because we can't do it safely without more data and you flatly refuse to test more than just preshots...as you well know preshots tell us nothing, they aren't telling us how low he is going at nadir and Lantus dosing is based off the nadir numbers.
As far as saving his ears Autumn and Musette before her were testing on average 6 times a day everyday and neither's ears were any worse for the wear. In fact I'm sure you can ask anyone on this board that has been treating a FD cat for more than a few months and they will tell you that you can't tell where they test. Cats do far more damage to their ears in fights than we do with a small needle prick. To be quite honest in my humble opinion you are trying to save his ears at the cost of his internal organs because we don't know if you need to go up to break the resistancy or down because he is in cronic rebound.
You would get plenty of help if we had the data to do so safely but we aren't going to offer advice to you or anyone with only preshot values. Perhaps if that is the only tests you can get in switching insulins might be a better choice ...I know right now PZI is hard to get ahold of but that might be something to look into as I do believe from what I have seen here that it can be dosed on a sliding scale according to preshot values.
