Going btb, going to forgo the +1 unless anyone thinks I should get it. He really really really really does NOT want to be tested. He says it hurts. Why is it hurting? Is it hurting?

Ongoing Medications:
Potencil 50mg bid
pepcid 2.5mgbid
bupe - none since day before yesterday , he will Not let me give it to him, and he doesn`t seem to need it. Monitoring
miralax - a few granules on the food yesterday; hineycam© on -- good prezzie early today

Thanks Marje! Not much sleep... Reuben was crying and I didn`t know why. I later figured out that he had left an awesome prezzie, and was hungry afterwards, but by the time I figured it out it was after +10 and I didn`t want to feed him. I think maybe I need to feed him more a little later in the cycle. And, I think next time I would feed him a little anyway after the +10, just a bit. Poor baby!

But things are good overall :razz: He's not on the bupe right now, and seems okay. Just hates the ear testing tho`, bucks and ducks and cries when I finally get a poke - maybe we need the neosporin with numbing? I asked but they said it didn`t exist, so I need to keep looking. And we changed lancets (not on purpose, I bought what they had), these are thinner which I would think would be less of a problem.

Can`t wait to see the +2 in a couple of minutes!

Reuben's numbers are looking really good Alexa. Great job! For ear relief, you might want to check for Neosporin under different names. In Canada it's called Polysporin Complete with Heal Fast Formula. I found it in the first aid section of the pharmacy.

Oh Thanks so much Wendy! I was was thinking I might have to do a little investigating to find it.

Hmm... +2/31 So maybe I could have gotten the +1 ... He is fine, he was sleeping when I woke him up to test, and is now have a large portion of LC. I think it will work just fine. I`ll test at +2.5, does that sound good?

That's quite a drop. Do you have any HC around? Or do you add honey/karo? It's a little early in the cycle to be this low and he has earned his deduction.

I would give him some HC or Karo.
I have to log off. You don't want him to fall any further. Please try to get him up into the 50s, now.

Thanks you guys - we're fine. He`s eating his LC food and I just gave him 1/8th tsp HC gravy, so we'll see that reflected in the next test.

He`s happy to be eating, since I think maybe I have been underfeeding him !?

He is acting just fine, and I know he will come up with the LC food - so it wasn`t a worry. I do appreciate the insistence to be quick about it, before the insulin starts sending him down further!!

Ok, Alexa, I assume you fed again at +2.5. Hope he continues to stay up and gets up to 50 soon.

Thanks Dale, yeah, I fed again and gave the dab of HC, testing again now :-) How is Max? I haven`t been over to visit you guys today!

Wow, good catch, Alexa!! I wish I'd taken a minute to post my earlier observation on your SS - that you shot a bit of a dropping number this morning. Reuben is on a roll!

You're a pro by now, you can rock this :lol: Remember: Lather, rinse, repeat until he's above 50, and then look for two rising non-food-related BGs, k?

I'm making dinner, but I'll try to check back in - though I know you've got your BOS and know exactly what to do :-D

Any time you shoot a dropping number, you must absolutely get a +1 at the latest. Okey dokey smokey?

Yeah, I actually calculated that as a surf, so just goes to show ya', I need to be double checking my judgements whether I think so or not!!

So yeah, what I gave him only kept him from dropping, so I gave 4 times the amount of hc --1/2 tsp -- and a little more LC.

all this rinsing and lathering and repeating, this boy`s gonna be squeaky cleeeaaan!!

What`s for dinner? :-D

Okay, we're gonna have to paddle faster to get in front of this wave far enough to surf on top of it.

doubled the hc again to 1tsp and added 1/8 tsp honey, and more LC food. This dude is HUNGRY! He eats anything I put in front of him. Oh, except straight honey. That, he rejected. :lol:

Jane...second dip vs drop

If kitty nadirs, goes up, and then comes back down but not as low as nadir, it's a second dip.

If kitty gradually comes down with no nadir mid cycle...just sliding towards PS which is the lowest number, it's a dropping number.

Reuben's nadir was 68; he came up to 186 and then dipped to 147.

Aahhh Reuben...even I was too young to appreciate the 50s.

Nice to see him coming up. I'd lay off the HC but stay on top of testing. With all that HC, he could wobble and come back down as it wears off.

Reuben seemed to feel good at the lower numbers. He was alert, relaxed, interested, sitting up, moving around. When I tested him just now and got the 77, I was actually waiting to do the +5 in about 5 minutes, when he suddenly cried out in distress, so I leaped up to see what was wrong - he was sitting up thumping his tail and was nervous. I checked the bg to rule out any bg problem. BG-77. No problem. When I was done he was still agitated; he jumped down off the credenza and ran over to the LB and took a big whizz -- and then tried.to.eat.the.litter again. I shoo'd him away from THAT and he ran off up the stairs to the terrace.

What the Heck?

Congrats on the reduction! Who knows what he was thinking when he tried to eat the litter! Cats are crazy. I assume he had no problem peeing? He didn't seem to feel pain?

Wow, Alexa, you & Reuben are doing so well! Congratulations on the new reduction! I just knew you two would be making it all the way before long!

Poor Reuben with sore ears! He's been getting so many tests! Maybe with the new dose he'll stay a little higher so you don't have to test so often and give his poor ears a break for a couple of days. Racci gets sore ears also. I use the neosporin with pain relief and she still gets sore. The neosporin with pr comes in a lotion or ointment like vaseline (petroleum jelly).

I hope his little ears feel better and you get some rest! Give those ears a kiss for Racci please. She said it will make them better. :razz:

Have you ever poked your finger to feel what it feels like? It was how I determined that it didn't really hurt Bob as much as he tried to make me believe. Given that there are fewer pain receptors (at least that's what I've read) on the edges of his ears than there are on our fingertips, no, I don't really think it hurts them much. Yeah, I felt it when I poked my finger, but not like "ouch" hurt. And a couple minutes later I didn't feel any residual pain.
The thinner lancets might not make it less of a problem. Depends on how easily he bleeds. If you have to poke two times with a skinny one vs. once with a fatter one? Remember, you can use the whole edge of his ear, not just the "sweet spot". With a flashlight you can see the vein almost along the entire ear edges. Anywhere along there will bleed a drop when poked. That might let you avoid any bruised areas for a couple days. And if you can find the neosporin w/ pain relief, that'll make a big difference too.

Good job today, Alexa! Hope Reuben has a good night. As for the litter eating, after googling it, the most popular answer is anemia and to definitely get blood work drawn and tested. This is simply via internet...not me. I'm sure there are SEVERAL possibilities....and then there's always the obvious answer...he's a cat! Hope he starts feeling better and stops eating litter...icky! Fuds taste better!
