Morning ~O) ~O) nice and strong is how I love it. Maggie was very quiet and sleeping when I got up. The in between days she doesn't have a bm, she just isn't her usual bubbly self. Once that magic day comes for a poo, she's back to her purry self. Mags is trying to get on Inspector Poo's log! :-D We just had a little play time together with her mouse pole toy, and now she seems to have perked up!
Some good news! I asked Maggie's Vet for a referral to an IM Vet, and he agrees it's a good idea for a 2nd opinion, in light of everything going on with her. I spoke with him yesterday, and he will Fax Maggie's Labs and his notes to the IM Vet. Maggie's renal values have changed so much in just two months, so the u/s can be helpful in detecting if there's an underlying kidney infection. Her bg numbers have also spiked the past couple months, but this could be the Megacolon and meds. I called yesterday and we have an appointment with the IM Vet and also an ultrasound this Thursday ar 9:00 am, so that was nice to get in so fast!
I'm familiar with this hospital, as my Siamese had a referral there four years ago, and he had excellent care.
Wishing all a nice day. Errands for me today and not sure what else may be around the corner.
Healing vines for all kitties needing them,

I just tried to hide 1/4 pepcid in Maggie's bf treat unsuccessfully. She left the pill on the side of the clean spoon! Any suggestiona on a good fishy taste pill pocket that some of you use. I've not paid attention to pill pockets, as the other two meds are via syringe.

Morning Ann ~O) ~O) ~O)

GO Maggie - I see blue! Keep them coming! OK Mags, Inspector Poo needs a good report today too. :-D

Good luck with the IM vet. it is a good plan I think, being proactive and all. The U/S is a great idea too, it will give you a better overall view of what is going on with Maggie. Mannie is so looking forward to welcoming her to the shaved belly club. :-D  It is good that you like this vetty place, and have had a good experience with them before. I hope all goes well with her appt. It was great that you got an appt so fast! wow on that! when I did Mannie's I had to wait three weeks....

The only pill pockets I have used are the duck and pea ones. It is my understanding that they don't make the cat size anymore (??), but that maybe you can get them in the dog size: not too sure on that. Mannie really liked them, gobbled them, and the pills, right up. Hopefully others will have more options for you. I can so see her eating all but the pill. Elsa will do that too, or cheek it and spit it out later.  Wishing you much luck!

Have a good one today. Enjoy those errands! A walk later?

Re: 9/25 Maggie AMPS 216; +3 178

I myself am not too familiar with pill pockets since I am lucky that all cats that need meds here are easy to pill and want to wish you the best with the IM vet in 2 days

Nice +3 Maggie lets see some poo today girl

Re: 9/25 Maggie AMPS 216; +3 178

Thanks for the visits Michelle, Lisa and Angela. Thanks on the Duck pill pockets, Michelle. I need to pick up some Pure Bites freeze dried chicken today, so i'll check some out. Yes, I was lucky to get in so early after calling. I have to do a dry run to make sure I remember the location and amount of time it takes to drive.
Yes, Mags is real easy to syringe, but pills, well, let's just say it would make a funny video with me trying to pill her!

Re: 9/25 Maggie AMPS 216; +3 178; +4 194

It's great that you were able to get Mags in to the IM so quickly!

I think there is a salmon PP, too, but it's techinically not diabetic-friendly. However, you use such a teeny piece of the PP that that might not really matter - as long as it gets the pill where it needs to go!

She and Trix are tag-teaming aagin today...almost the same AMPS!

Have a great day, Ann!

+11 240

Sheesh!!! I usually don't take a +11, but I just did a little experiment on food.

Thanks Amy on the Salmon pill pockets. I didn't make it to Petco but tomorrow I'll add it to my list.

The duck and pea do not have sugar but definitely have some carbs. We use the dog flavor and Zener loves them. I estimate that 1 dog PP is the equivalent of 8 cat ones. We cut off tiny pieces, just enough to cover the pill. It sure makes giving pills infinitely easier. Inspector Poo hopes to see some action tomorrow, Mags.

Thanks Liz on the duck and pea pill pockets in the dog section. I just added it to my list for tomorrow. I think I got today's Pepcid in Mags unless I look underneath the sofa cushions and find it.
Maggie said there still may be some action later! :?

Re: 9/25 Maggie AMPS 216; +3 178; +4 194; +9 206; + 11 240

Hi Ann and - So glad for you about the 2nd opinion app't coming through so fast, and at a hospital you already know - one less variable to deal with!!

Re: 9/25 Maggie AMPS 216; +3 178; +4 194; +9 206; + 11 240

Hi Ann
Checkers wasn't crazy about the duck and pea. On the rare occasion that he needs Pepcid, I gave it in a tiny piece of the regular PP. He loves it, and it's too small to do any harm. The PP wraps around easily, like Playdough.
Isn't it amazing how Mags could get such a tiny piece of pill out of the bf?

I'm glad you got an appt so quickly with the IM doc.

Re: 9/25 Maggie AMPS 216; +3 178; +4 194; +9 206; + 11 240

Yes, pilling is a real challenge... Glad you got an appointment so quickly...fingers crossed for you guys..

Re: 9/25 Maggie AMPS 216; +3 178; +4 194; +9 206; + 11 240

Hi Ann:) I hope the IM appt goes well on Thursday and that they'll be able to give you some clear answers as to what is going on with your lil muffin. In the meantime, I'm sending Mags poo vines so that she has something good to report in her log for Inspector Poo!

Re: 9/25 Maggie AMPS 216; +3 178; +4 194; +9 206; + 11 240

That's good you can get in so quickly with the IM vet. I hope you can get some answers about what is going on with Maggie. The regular pill pockets do come in salmon flavor, but I don't think they are diabetic friendly. I use them for one of my other cats. Maybe if you use a small piece it won't make much of a difference. Here are the ingredients from the chicken flavor pill pockets: rehydrated chicken, glycerin, wheat flour, wheat gluten, vegetable oil, dried corn syrup, dried chicken liver, natural flavors, dried cultured skim milk, natural chicken bouillon flavor, sodium bisulfate, xanthan gum, preserved with mixed tocopherols.

Re: 9/25 Maggie AMPS 216; +3 178; +4 194; +9 206; + 11 240

Gosh hi everyone and thanks for the visits. I just fell asleep while watching a good Anderson Cooper show and guess I left FDMB on, too.

Hi Alexa, thanks and yes, I was happy to get in so fast on Thursday. It sure helps that my GA kitty had been treated there also, and I'm familiar with it.

Barb, I was amazed that Maggie found that teeny pill in the bf and cleaned the spoon all nice and clean and left the pill!

Hi Pat & Raja & Shadow, I wonder if the pepcid would be acceptable all chopped up and mixed in with the food?

Hi Tamara, thanks on Maggie's appt. and especially for the poo vines.

Hi Carla, thank you so much for listing the ingredients on the chicken flavored pill pockets, very interesting. Are those the ones you use?

Re: 9/25 Maggie PMPS 240

Ann, I use the chicken flavored pill pockets for Callie, she's non-diabetic. She has Hyper T and I have to give her a pill twice a day for it. Callie doesn't like the salmon flavored pill pockets. I have not given them to Furball. So I don't know how they affect BG.

Maggie is blue now & coming down...Glad also to hear you are taking her to a vet you know & an IM vet..Good on all counts & hope this will bring you some answers for your dear girl..
Moonie likes the pill pockets-I give her a small piece of the chicken ones.
Would Maggie eat it in piece of cheese? Geez she is a crafty one
We Love you Mags & want you to be all well...Ann, Wishing you a good vetty visit tomorrow..
Will be waiting for her good vetty report--Bug Hugs & Love from us!

Ann, Hi, I'm glad you are happy to be seeing the IM. Maggie's numbers are still high enough that she should have that check up.

I don't know about how this would affect anything else that's going on with Maggie, but you can soften butter, cover the pill with it, and then refrigerate or freeze it. She might not notice that she's getting anything other than a piece of butter. Lard works, too, and you don't have to soften and freeze it. Pill pockets are much easier, but if she doesn't like them . . .

Hope you have a great night. Isn't it nice that it has cooled off?

In so glad you got Maggie in so quickly and your vet went with it. I know you were worried about that. Hope you have a great night and big scritches for Maggie!!
